On or before 30th August 1716, the date he was baptised at St Wilfrid's Church, Kirkharle [Map], Lancelot "Capability" Brown was born to William Brown and Ursula Hall at Kirkharle, Northumberland. His father was land agent to William Loraine 2nd Baronet (age 58). His mother was in servvice at Kirkharle Hall, Northumberland. He was educated at Cambo, Northumberland until he was sixteen years.
On 22nd November 1744 Lancelot "Capability" Brown (age 28) and Bridget Wayet were married. They had eight children.

In 1770 Anthony Joseph Browne 7th Viscount Montagu (age 40) commissioned Capability Brown (age 53) to landscape Cowdray House [Map].
On 6th February 1783 Lancelot "Capability" Brown (age 66) died. He collapsed on the doorstep of his daughter Bridget Holland's house, at 6 Hertford Street, Mayfair while returning after a night out at Lord Coventry's (age 60). He was buried at St Peter and St Paul's Church, Fenstanton [Map].
