Biography of Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent 1906-1968

On 29th August 1902 [her father] Prince Nicholas Glücksburg (age 30) and [her mother] Elena Vladimirovna Holstein Gottorp Romanov (age 20) were married. He the son of [her grandfather] George I King Greece (age 56) and [her grandmother] Olga Constantinovna Holstein Gottorp Romanov Queen Consort Greece (age 51). They were second cousins. He a great x 4 grandson of King George II of Great Britain and Ireland.

On 13th December 1906 Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent was born to [her father] Prince Nicholas Glücksburg (age 34) and [her mother] Elena Vladimirovna Holstein Gottorp Romanov (age 24) at Athens. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.74%.

On 9th October 1934 [her future husband] Prince George Windsor 1st Duke Kent (age 31) was created 1st Duke Kent.

On 29th November 1934 Prince George Windsor 1st Duke Kent (age 31) and Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent (age 27) were married at Westminster Abbey [Map]. She by marriage Duchess Kent. The wedding was followed by a Greek ceremony in the private chapel at Buckingham Palace [Map]. She had eight bridesmaids: her first cousins Princess Irene Glücksburg (age 30), He the son of King George V of the United Kingdom (age 69) and Victoria Mary Teck Queen Consort England (age 67). They were second cousins. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King George II of Great Britain and Ireland.

On 9th October 1935 [her son] Edward Windsor 2nd Duke Kent was born to [her husband] Prince George Windsor 1st Duke Kent (age 32) and Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent (age 28). He a grandson of King George V of the United Kingdom. Coefficient of inbreeding 2.04%. He married 8th June 1961 Katharine Worsley Duchess of Kent, daughter of William Arthington Worsley 4th Baronet and Joyce Morgan Brunner Lady Worsley.

On 6th November 1935 [her brother-in-law] Henry Windsor 1st Duke Gloucester (age 35) and Alice Christabel Montagu-Douglas-Scott Duchess Gloucester (age 33) were married at Buckingham Palace [Map]. On 20th January 1936 [her father-in-law] King George V of the United Kingdom (age 70) died. His son [her brother-in-law] Edward (age 41) succeeded VIII King of the United Kingdom. Duke York merged with the crown.

On 25th December 1936 [her daughter] Alexandra Windsor was born to [her husband] Prince George Windsor 1st Duke Kent (age 34) and Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent (age 30). She a granddaughter of King George V of the United Kingdom. Coefficient of inbreeding 2.04%. She married 24th April 1963 Angus James Bruce Ogilvy, son of David Ogilvy 12th Earl of Airlie and Alexandra Bridget Coke Countess Airlie, and had issue.

On 3rd June 1937 [her brother-in-law] King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom (age 42) and Wallis Warfield aka Simpson Duchess of Windsor (age 40) were married at the Château de Candé. No member of his family attended. He the son of [her father-in-law] King George V of the United Kingdom and [her mother-in-law] Victoria Mary Teck Queen Consort England (age 70).

On 8th February 1938 [her father] Prince Nicholas Glücksburg (age 66) died.

Before 25th April 1939 Thomas William Anson (age 26) and Anne Ferelith Bowes-Lyon (age 21) were married at St Margaret's Church, Westminster [Map]. The wedding was attended by the [her brother-in-law] King (age 43) and Queen (age 38), Princesses Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (age 13) and Princess Margaret (age 8) - see Pathe. He the son of Thomas Edward Anson 4th Earl Lichfield (age 55) and Evelyn Maud Keppel Countess Lichfield (age 52).

In 1941 Hugh Molyneux 7th Earl of Sefton (age 42) and Josephine Gwynne Armstrong Countess Sefton (age 38). Whilst he was a good friend of the [her brother-in-law] Duke of Windsor (age 46), his wife was a good friend of the Duke's wife Wallis Warfield aka Simpson Duchess of Windsor (age 44). On 4th July 1942 [her son] Prince Michael of Kent was born to [her husband] Prince George Windsor 1st Duke Kent (age 39) and Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent (age 35). He a grandson of King George V of the United Kingdom. Coefficient of inbreeding 2.04%. He married 30th June 1978 Princess Marie von Reibnitz and had issue.

In 1943 Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent (age 36) was appointed Royal National Lifeboat Institution: President.

On 10th October 1944 Harold Philips (age 34) and Georgina Wernher (age 24) were married at St Margaret's Church, Westminster [Map]. He the son of [her former husband] Prince George Windsor 1st Duke Kent and Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent (age 54).

Edward Beckett 5th Baron Grimthorpe (age 6) served as a Page.

On 24th April 1963 [her son-in-law] Angus James Bruce Ogilvy (age 34) and [her daughter] Alexandra Windsor (age 26) were married. She the daughter of [her former husband] Prince George Windsor 1st Duke Kent and Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent (age 56). He the son of David Ogilvy 12th Earl of Airlie (age 69) and Alexandra Bridget Coke Countess Airlie (age 72).

On 27th August 1968 Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent (age 61) died at Kensington Palace.

On 30th August 1968 Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent (deceased) funeral was held at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle [Map]. She was buried in the Royal Burial Ground Frogmore Estate Home Park Windsor, Berkshire.
