Biography of Anselm Marshal 6th Earl Pembroke 1208-1245

In Aug 1189 [his father] William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke (age 43) and [his mother] Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke (age 17) were married at Temple Church, London [Map]. The title Earl Pembroke (1C 1138) was not included in the settlement since it had been rescinded as a consequence of Isabel's (age 17) father having supported King Stephen. The difference in their ages was 26 years. She the daughter of Richard "Strongbow" Clare 2nd Earl Pembroke 1130-1176 and .

In 1199 [his father] William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke (age 53) was created 1st Earl Pembroke.

Around 1208 Anselm Marshal 6th Earl Pembroke was born to William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke (age 62) and Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke (age 36). His name was probably Ansel or Hansel rather than Anselm.

After 1208 Anselm Marshal 6th Earl Pembroke and were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. She the daughter of Humphrey Bohun 2nd Earl Hereford 1st Earl Essex (age 4) and Matilda Lusignan Countess Hereford and Essex 1210-1241. After 12 Aug 1241 [his brother-in-law] Humphrey Bohun (age 20) and Eleanor de Braose (age 13) were married at Brecon [Map]. He the son of Humphrey Bohun 2nd Earl Hereford 1st Earl Essex (age 37) and Matilda Lusignan Countess Hereford and Essex 1210-1241 (age 31). They were fourth cousins.

On 27 Nov 1245 [his brother] Walter Marshal 5th Earl Pembroke (age 46) died at Goodrich Castle, Gloucestershire [Map]. He was buried at Tintern Abbey [Map] next to his mother [his mother] Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke His brother Anselm Marshal 6th Earl Pembroke (age 37) succeeded 6th Earl Pembroke although he only enjoyed the title for one month dying on 23 Dec 1245.

On 23 Dec 1245 Anselm Marshal 6th Earl Pembroke (age 37) died at Chepstow Castle [Map]. He was buried at Tintern Abbey [Map] next to his brother [his brother] Walter Marshal 5th Earl Pembroke (deceased), who had died only a month before, and mother Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke. Earl Pembroke extinct.

In or after 1250 Roger de Quincy 2nd Earl Winchester (age 55) and [his former wife] were married. She by marriage Earl Winchester. She the daughter of Humphrey Bohun 2nd Earl Hereford 1st Earl Essex (age 46) and Matilda Lusignan Countess Hereford and Essex 1210-1241. He the son of Saer Quincy 1st Earl Winchester 1170-1219 and Margaret Beaumont Countess Winchester. They were half third cousin once removed.

In or before 1252 [his former wife] died.

John "The Botiller" Verdun and Eleanor Bohun were married. She the daughter of Humphrey Bohun 2nd Earl Hereford 1st Earl Essex and Matilda Lusignan Countess Hereford and Essex 1210-1241.
