Biography of Bishop William Buller 1735-1796

Paternal Family Tree: Buller

On 22nd July 1716 [his father] John Francis Buller (age 21) and [his mother] Rebecca Trelawny (age 20) were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Bishop Jonathan Trelawny 3rd Baronet (age 66).

In 1735 Bishop William Buller was born to John Francis Buller (age 39) and Rebecca Trelawny (age 39).

In 1743 [his mother] Rebecca Trelawny (age 47) died.

On 23rd June 1751 [his father] John Francis Buller (age 56) died.

On 19th April 1762 Bishop William Buller (age 27) and Anne Thomas (age 24) were married. She the daughter of Bishop John Thomas (age 65).

Around 1770 [his daughter] Ann Buller was born to Bishop William Buller (age 35) and [his wife] Anne Thomas (age 32).

In 1784 Bishop William Buller (age 49) was elected Dean of Exeter.

In 1790 Bishop William Buller (age 55) was translated to Dean of Canterbury.

The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." In 1796 Bishop William Buller (age 61) died.

In 1800 [his former wife] Anne Thomas (age 62) died.
