Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans
Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.

Paternal Family Tree: Howard
On 4th April 1649 [his father] William Howard (age 27) and [his mother] Elizabeth Dundas (age 23) were married. He the son of [his grandfather] Thomas Howard 1st Earl Berkshire (age 61) and [his grandmother] Elizabeth Cecil Countess Berkshire (age 53).
After 4th April 1649 Craven Howard was born to [his father] William Howard (age 27) and [his mother] Elizabeth Dundas (age 23).
On 29th July 1673 Craven Howard (age 24) and Anne Ogle1652-1682 (age 21) were married.
John Evelyn's Diary. 15th July 1675. Our cause was pleaded in behalf of the mother, [his mother] Mrs. Howard (age 49) and her daughters, before Baron Thurland (age 68), who had formerly been steward of Courts for me; we carried our cause, as there was reason, for here was an impudent as well as disobedient son (age 26) against his mother, by instigation, doubtless, of his wife, one [his wife] Mrs. Ogle (age 23) (an ancient maid), whom he had clandestinely married, and who brought him no fortune, he being heir-apparent to the [his uncle] Earl of Berkshire (age 60) [Note. The reference to heir apparent is incorrect insofar as Charles Howard 2nd Earl Berkshire having a younger brother [his uncle] Thomas Howard 3rd Earl Berkshire (age 55) who did inherit the Earldom]. Craven in line to inherit in the event the 2nd or 3rd Earl didn't have issue which proved to be the case but Craven had died by that time so his son [his son] Henry Bowes Howard 4th Earl Berkshire 11th Earl Suffolk became the 4th Earl. We lay at Brickhill, Bedfordshire, in Bedfordshire, and came late the next day to our journey's end.
In 1682 [his wife] Anne Ogle1652-1682 (age 30) died.
On 5th June 1683 Craven Howard (age 34) and Mary Bowes (age 28) were married.
In 1686 [his son] Henry Bowes Howard 4th Earl Berkshire 11th Earl Suffolk was born to Craven Howard (age 36) and [his wife] Mary Bowes (age 31).
In 1698 [his father] William Howard (age 76) died.
On 7th June 1700 Craven Howard (age 51) died at Elford, Staffordshire.
