On 19th May 1664 [his father] Richard Onslow (age 63) died.

After 14th August 1671 Denzil Onslow of Pyrford (age 29) and Sarah Foote Lady Lewis (age 43) were married.

On 11th February 1672 Robert Leke 3rd Earl Scarsdale (age 17) and [his step-daughter] Mary Lewis Countess Scarsdale (age 14) were married. He the son of Nicholas Leke 2nd Earl Scarsdale (age 60) and Frances Rich Countess Scarsdale.

John Evelyn's Diary. 23rd August 1681. The seat stands on a flat, the ground pasture, rarely watered, and exceedingly improved since Mr. Onslow (age 39) bought it of Sir Robert Parkhurst, who spent a fair estate. The house is timber, but commodious, and with one ample dining-room, the hall adorned with paintings of fowl and huntings, etc., the work of Mr. Barlow, who is excellent in this kind from the life.

John Evelyn's Diary. 23rd August 1681. I went to Wotton, Surrey [Map], and, on the following day, was invited to Mr. Denzil Onslow's (age 39) at his seat at Purford, where was much company, and such an extraordinary feast, as I had hardly seen at any country gentleman's table. What made it more remarkable was, that there was not anything save what his estate about it did afford; as venison, rabbits, hares, pheasants, partridges, pigeons, quails, poultry, all sorts of fowl in season from his own decoy near his house, and all sorts of fresh fish. After dinner we went to see sport at the decoy, where I never saw so many herons.

In 1684 [his step-daughter] Mary Lewis Countess Scarsdale (age 26) died.

In 1688 [his step-daughter] Elizabeth Lewis Countess Huntingdon (age 34) died.

All About History Books

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In 1705 [his wife] Sarah Foote Lady Lewis (age 77) died.

In 1719 Godfrey Kneller (age 72). Portrait of Denzil Onslow of Pyrford (age 77).

On 27th June 1721 Denzil Onslow of Pyrford (age 79) died without issue. His estate was inherited by the children of his nephew Richard Onslow 1st Baron Onslow.
