Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

Maternal Family Tree: Jane Norbury 1464-1564
On 21st February 1497 [her father] Edmund Braye 1st Baron Braye [aged 13] and [her mother] Jane Halwell Baroness Bray were married. She by marriage Baroness Braye.
Around 1524 Dorothy Braye Baroness Chandos and Knollys was born to [her father] Edmund Braye 1st Baron Braye [aged 40] and [her mother] Jane Halwell Baroness Bray at Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire.
On 19th July 1529 Thomas Brooke 8th Baron Cobham [aged 59] died. He was buried at St Mary Magdalene New Churchyard, Cobham. His son [her brother-in-law] George [aged 32] succeeded 9th Baron Cobham. [her sister] Anne Braye Baroness Cobham [aged 28] by marriage Baroness Cobham.
On 18th October 1539 [her father] Edmund Braye 1st Baron Braye [aged 55] died. His son [her brother] John succeeded 2nd Baron Braye. As a minor he was placed under the wardship of Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury [aged 39]. He would later marry Talbot's daughter [her future sister-in-law] Anne Talbot Baroness Braye and Wharton [aged 15].
22nd January 1543. Once William Parr 1st Marquess Northampton [aged 31] and Anne Bourchier 7th Baroness Bourchier [aged 26] did live together both commenced affairs. She with John Lyngfield, prior of St. James's Church [Map], in Tanbridge, Surrey [Source. Wikipedia. However, there is no church of St James in Tandbridge?], by whom she had an illegitimate child named John Parr. He with Dorothy Braye Baroness Chandos and Knollys [aged 19]. To protect the interest of his subsequent children Parr pursued legislation to disinherit her child.
In 1546 Edmund Brydges 2nd Baron Chandos [aged 24] and Dorothy Braye Baroness Chandos and Knollys [aged 22] were married.
Around 1548 [her son] Giles Brydges 3rd Baron Chandos was born to [her husband] Edmund Brydges 2nd Baron Chandos [aged 26] and Dorothy Braye Baroness Chandos and Knollys [aged 24] at Sudeley Castle [Map]. He married before 1573 his fifth cousin once removed Anne Clinton, daughter of Edward Clinton 1st Earl Lincoln and Ursula Stourton Baroness Clinton, and had issue.
Around 1552 [her son] William Brydges 4th Baron Chandos was born to [her husband] Edmund Brydges 2nd Baron Chandos [aged 30] and Dorothy Braye Baroness Chandos and Knollys [aged 28]. He married Mary Hopton Baroness Chandos and had issue.
Around 1555 [her daughter] Katharine Brydges Baroness Sandys was born to [her husband] Edmund Brydges 2nd Baron Chandos [aged 33] and Dorothy Braye Baroness Chandos and Knollys [aged 31]. She married in or before 1565 her fifth cousin once removed William Sandys 3rd Baron Sandys of the Vyne and had issue.
Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke
Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson.

On 12th April 1557 [her father-in-law] John Brydges 1st Baron Chandos [aged 65] died at Sudeley Castle [Map]. His son [her husband] Edmund [aged 35] succeeded 2nd Baron Chandos of Sudeley. Dorothy Braye Baroness Chandos and Knollys [aged 33] by marriage Baroness Chandos of Sudeley.
Before 19th November 1557 [her brother] John Braye 2nd Baron Braye and [her sister-in-law] Anne Talbot Baroness Braye and Wharton [aged 33] were married. She by marriage Baroness Braye. She being the daughter of Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury [aged 57] who ward John had been. She the daughter of Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury and Mary Dacre.
On 19th November 1557 [her brother] John Braye 2nd Baron Braye died from wounds received at the Battle of St Quentin. Baron Braye abeyant between his six sisters. He was buried at Chelsea Old Church. The abeyance was be terminated in 1839 in favour of Sarah Cave 3rd Baroness Braye a descendant of his sister Elizabeth Braye [aged 56].
On 24th October 1558 [her mother] Jane Halwell Baroness Bray died. Chest tomb at Church of St Mary, Eaton Bray on which there was a brass showing her and her eleven children praying.
Jane Halwell Baroness Bray: she was born to Richard Halwell of Halwell in Devon and Jane Norbury. On 21st February 1497 Edmund Braye 1st Baron Braye and she were married. She by marriage Baroness Braye.
On 1st November 1558 [her sister] Anne Braye Baroness Cobham [aged 57] died.
On 1st January 1562 the New Years Gift Giving was held. Those who gave gifts provide an interesting who's who of the Elizabethan Court soon after Elizabeth I's Coronation. Queen Elizabeth [aged 28] was present since a number are described as "With the Qene her Majestie."
For 'dimy' read 'demi' ie half-sovereigns.

By the Lady Margaret Strainge [aged 22], a little round mounte of golde to conteyne a pomaunder in it. With the Qene her Majestie. Note. Lady Margaret Strange married Henry Stanley Lord Strange [aged 30] on 07 Feb 1555. In 1561 he had not succeeded to Earldom of Derby and was known by the courtesy title Lord Strange. She is listed first since she was one of the few remaining direct descendants of Henry VII, being a great-granddaughter by his daughter Mary Tudor. Margaret Clifford was first in line to succeed in 1568 but died in 1596 before Elizabeth I.

Before 1595 William Knollys 1st Earl Banbury [aged 50] and Dorothy Braye Baroness Chandos and Knollys [aged 70] were married. The difference in their ages was 20 years; she, unusually, being older than him.
Before 8th December 1597 [her daughter] Katharine Brydges Baroness Sandys [aged 42] died.
Henrici Quinti, Angliæ Regis, Gesta, is a first-hand account of the Agincourt Campaign, and subsequent events to his death in 1422. The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.

On 31st October 1605 Dorothy Braye Baroness Chandos and Knollys [aged 81] died.
On 23rd December 1605 [her former husband] William Knollys 1st Earl Banbury [aged 61] and Elizabeth Howard Countess Banbury [aged 22] were married. She by marriage Baroness Knollys. The difference in their ages was 39 years. She the daughter of Thomas Howard 1st Earl Suffolk [aged 44] and Catherine Knyvet Countess Suffolk [aged 41]. They were third cousin once removed.
On 25th May 1632 [her former husband] William Knollys 1st Earl Banbury [aged 88] died. His son Edward [aged 5] de jure 2nd Earl Banbury, 2nd Viscount Wallingford, 2nd Baron Knollys. Parliament disallowed the succession on the basis that Edward had been born when William was some eighty-two years old and Edward was, in fact, the son of Edward Vaux 4th Baron Vaux Harrowden [aged 43] whom Edward's mother [aged 49] subsequently married around a month after William's death.
