The History of William Marshal, Earl of Chepstow and Pembroke, Regent of England. Book 1 of 2, Lines 1-10152.

The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

Biography of Edward Jervis Ricketts aka Jervis 2nd Viscount St Vincent 1767-1859

On 19th April 1757 [his father] William Henry Ricketts (age 20) and [his mother] Mary Jervis (age 20) were married.

On 1st April 1767 Edward Jervis Ricketts aka Jervis 2nd Viscount St Vincent was born to [his father] William Henry Ricketts (age 30) and [his mother] Mary Jervis (age 30).

On 29th January 1790 Edward Jervis Ricketts aka Jervis 2nd Viscount St Vincent (age 22) and Mary Cassandra Twisleton (age 15) were married.

On 11th October 1794 [his son] William Jervis was born to Edward Jervis Ricketts aka Jervis 2nd Viscount St Vincent (age 27) and [his wife] Mary Cassandra Twisleton (age 20).

In 1799 Edward Jervis Ricketts aka Jervis 2nd Viscount St Vincent (age 31) and Mary Cassandra Twisleton (age 24) were divorced.

On 5th October 1799 [his father] William Henry Ricketts (age 62) died. [his brother] Captain William Henry Ricketts aka Jervis (age 34) and Edward Jervis Ricketts aka Jervis 2nd Viscount St Vincent (age 32) jointly inherited the estate of Mount Ricketts in Jamaica with a deferral of twenty-one years, together with the estate of Canaan on that island.

The King has been pleased to grant the Dignity of a Viscount of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, to the Right Honorable [his uncle] John Earl of St. Vincent (age 66), Knight of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, and Admiral of the White Squadron of His Majesty's Fleet, and to the Heirs Male of his Body lawfully begotten by the Name, Style, and Title of Viscount St. Vincent, of Meaford, in the County of Stafford, with Remainders severally and successively to [his brother] William Henry Ricketts (age 36), Esq; Captain in the Royal Navy, and the Heirs Male of his Body lawfully begotten; to Edward Jervis Ricketts (age 34), Esq; Barrister at Law, Brother of the said William Henry Ricketts, and Sons of [his mother] Mary Ricketts (age 64) by [his father] William Henry Ricketts. Esq; late of the Island of Jamaica, deceased, and Sister to the said John Earl of St. Vincent, and the Heirs Male of his Body lawfully begotten, and the Dignity of Viscountess St. Vincent, of Meaford, in the said County.of Stafford, to the Right Honourable [his sister] Mary Countess of Northesk (age 32), Daughter of the said Mary Ricketts, and Widow of William Henry Ricketts aforesaid, and the Dignity of Viscount St. Vincent to the Heirs Male of her Body lawfully be gotten.

On 13th March 1823 [his uncle] John Jervis 1st Earl St Vincent (age 88) died. Earl of St Vincent and Baron Jervis of Medsford in Staffordshire extinct. His nephew Edward (age 55) succeeded 2nd Viscount St Vincent of Meaford in Staffordshire.

Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses

Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

In 1839 [his son] William Jervis (age 44) died.

In June 1843 [his former wife] Mary Cassandra Twisleton (age 68) died.

In 1859 Edward Jervis Ricketts aka Jervis 2nd Viscount St Vincent (age 91) died. His grandson [his grandson] Carnegie (age 33) succeeded 3rd Viscount St Vincent of Meaford in Staffordshire.
