William of Worcester's Chronicle of England

William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

In 1713 Edwin Lascelles 1st Baron Harewood was born to [his father] Henry Lascelles (age 23) at Barbados.

Around 1723 Edwin Lascelles 1st Baron Harewood (age 10) educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University [Map].

In 1744 Edwin Lascelles 1st Baron Harewood (age 31) was elected MP Scarborough.

On 5th January 1747 Edwin Lascelles 1st Baron Harewood (age 34) and Elizabeth Dawes (age 21) were married.

On 16th October 1753 [his father] Henry Lascelles (age 63) died.

After 6th November 1753 John Fleming 1st Baronet (age 23) and [his future wife] Jane Coleman Baroness Harewood (age 22) were married.

In 1761 Edwin Lascelles 1st Baron Harewood (age 48) was elected MP Yorkshire.

On 31st August 1764 [his wife] Elizabeth Dawes (age 38) died.

On 31st March 1770 Edwin Lascelles 1st Baron Harewood (age 57) and Jane Coleman Baroness Harewood (age 39) were married.

Around 1786, following the death of his two brothers Daniel and Henry, Edwin Lascelles 1st Baron Harewood (age 73) took control of the family wealth, to which he added 22 slave plantations, more than 27,000 acres and 2,947 slaves in the British West Indies.

On 25th January 1795 Edwin Lascelles 1st Baron Harewood (age 82) died. Baron Harewood of Harewood in Yorkshire extinct. His vast wealth and estates, including his holdings in Barbados were inherited by his first cousin Edward Lascelles (age 54), subsequently Earl of Harewood.

In 1813 [his former wife] Jane Coleman Baroness Harewood (age 82) died.
