The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." He married 25th July 1854 Alice Leveson-Gower aka Egerton Countess Strafford, daughter of Francis Leveson Gower aka Egerton 1st Earl Ellesmere and Harriet Greville Countess Ellesmere.
On 21st August 1831 [his son] Henry Byng 4th Earl Strafford was born to George Byng 2nd Earl Strafford and [his wife] Agnes Paget. He married (1) 15th October 1863 Henrietta Louisa Elizabeth Danneskiold Samsøe and had issue (2) 6th December 1898 Cora Smith Countess Strafford.
On 4th August 1832 John Robert Townshend 1st Earl Sydney and [his illegitimate sister-in-law] Emily Paget Countess Sydney were married. She the illegitmate daughter of [his father-in-law] Henry William Paget 1st Marquess Anglesey and Charlotte Cadogan Marchioness Anglesey.
On 28th December 1832 Henry Conyngham 1st Marquess Conyngham died. Francis Nathaniel Conyngham 2nd Marquess Conyngham succeeded 2nd Marquess Conyngham in Donegal, 4th Baron Conyngham, 2nd Baron Minster of Minster Abbey in Kent. [his sister-in-law] Jane Paget Marchioness Conyngham by marriage Marchioness Conyngham in Donegal.
On 27th August 1833 [his brother-in-law] Henry Paget 2nd Marquess Anglesey and Henrietta Bagot Marchioness Anglesey were married. He the son of [his father-in-law] Henry William Paget 1st Marquess Anglesey and [his mother-in-law] Caroline Elizabeth Villiers Duchess Argyll.
On 29th October 1833 [his daughter] Agnes Mary Georgiana Byng was born to George Byng 2nd Earl Strafford and [his wife] Agnes Paget. She married (1) 1858 Hedworth Jolliffe 2nd Baron Hylton, son of William Jolliffe 1st Baron Hylton and Eleanor Paget, and had issue.
On 15th January 1835 [his son] Francis Edmund Cecil Byng 5th Earl Strafford was born to George Byng 2nd Earl Strafford and [his wife] Agnes Paget. He married (1) 8th June 1859 Florence Louisa Miles and had issue (2) 4th August 1866 Emily Georgina Kerr Countess Strafford and had issue.
On 8th May 1835 [his father] John Byng was created 1st Baron Strafford of Harmondsworth in Middlesex. [his step-mother] Marianne James by marriage Baroness Strafford of Harmondsworth in Middlesex.
In 1838 [his daughter] Mary Caroline Charlotte Byng was born to George Byng 2nd Earl Strafford and [his wife] Agnes Paget.
On 6th September 1838 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich and [his sister-in-law] Mary Paget Countess Sandwich were married. She by marriage Countess Sandwich. She the daughter of [his father-in-law] Henry William Paget 1st Marquess Anglesey and Charlotte Cadogan Marchioness Anglesey. He the son of George Montagu 6th Earl Sandwich and Louisa Lowry-Corry Countess of Sandwich.
