The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 2nd October 1824 George Milles 1st Earl Sondes was born to George John Milles 4th Baron Sondes of Lees Court (age 30) and Eleanor Knatchbull.

In 1859 George Milles 1st Earl Sondes (age 34) and Charlote Stracey were married.

On 11th May 1861 [his son] George Milles-Lade 2nd Earl Sondes was born to George Milles 1st Earl Sondes (age 36) and [his wife] Charlote Stracey.

In 1864 [his daughter] Constance Grace Milles was born to George Milles 1st Earl Sondes (age 39) and [his wife] Charlote Stracey.

In 1866 [his son] Lewis Milles 3rd Earl Sondes was born to George Milles 1st Earl Sondes (age 41) and [his wife] Charlote Stracey.

On 24th November 1867 [his son] Henry Milles was born to George Milles 1st Earl Sondes (age 43) and [his wife] Charlote Stracey.

In 1868 George Milles 1st Earl Sondes (age 43) was elected MP East Kent.

On 17th December 1874 [his father] George John Milles 4th Baron Sondes of Lees Court (age 80) died. His son George (age 50) succeeded 5th Baron Sondes.

On 4th May 1880 George Milles 1st Earl Sondes (age 55) was created 1st Earl Sondes, 1st Viscount Throwley.

On 1st October 1885 [his son-in-law] Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Gore (age 30) and [his daughter] Constance Grace Milles (age 21) were married. She the daughter of George Milles 1st Earl Sondes (age 60) and [his wife] Charlote Stracey.

On 10th September 1894 George Milles 1st Earl Sondes (age 69) died. His son [his son] George (age 33) succeeded 2nd Earl Sondes, 2nd Viscount Throwley, 6th Baron Sondes.
