The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 09 Jun 1802 [his father] Charles Stanley Monck 1st Viscount Monck (age 48) died. His son Henry Monck 1st Earl of Rathdowne (age 16) succeeded 2nd Viscount Monck.
On 28 Jul 1806 Henry Monck 1st Earl of Rathdowne (age 21) and Frances Mary Trench (age 18) were married. She the daughter of William Trench 1st Earl of Clancarty 1741-1805.
Around 1809 [his step-father] John Craven Carden 1st Baronet (age 51) and [his mother] Anne Quin were married.
In 1822 Henry Monck 1st Earl of Rathdowne (age 36) was created 1st Earl Rathdowne.
On 20 Dec 1823 [his mother] Anne Quin died.
On 22 Nov 1843 [his wife] Frances Mary Trench (age 56) died.
On 23 Jun 1844 [his son-in-law] Charles Stanley Monck 4th Viscount Monck (age 24) and [his daughter] Elizabeth Louise Mary Monck were married. She the daughter of Henry Monck 1st Earl of Rathdowne 1785-1848 (age 58). They were first cousins.
On 20 Sep 1848 Henry Monck 1st Earl of Rathdowne (age 63) died without male issue. Earl Rathdowne extinct. His brother [his brother] Charles Monck 3rd Viscount Monck (age 57) succeeded 2nd Viscount Monck.
[his daughter] Elizabeth Louise Mary Monck was born to Henry Monck 1st Earl of Rathdowne.
