The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 10th July 1690 Henry Oxenden 4th Baronet was born to George Oxenden (age 38) and Elizabeth Dixwell.

On 21st February 1703 [his father] George Oxenden (age 51) died.
On 7th January 1707 Henry Oxenden 4th Baronet (age 16) was admitted to Trinity Hall, Cambridge University.
In 1709 [his uncle] Henry Oxenden 3rd Baronet (age 64) died. His nephew Henry (age 18) succeeded 4th Baronet Oxenden of Dene in Kent.
On 27th July 1712 Henry Oxenden 4th Baronet (age 22) and Anne Holloway Lady Oxenden were married. She by marriage Lady Oxenden of Dene in Kent.
In 1713 Henry Oxenden 4th Baronet (age 22) was elected MP Sandwich. He was re-elected in 1715.
On 21st April 1720 Henry Oxenden 4th Baronet (age 29) died without issue. His brother [his brother] George (age 25) succeeded 5th Baronet Oxenden of Dene in Kent. Elizabeth Dunch Lady Oxenden (age 9) by marriage Lady Oxenden of Dene in Kent.
On 9th May 1720 [his brother] George Oxenden 5th Baronet (age 25) was elected MP Sandwich at a by-election probably caused by the death of his brother Henry Oxenden 4th Baronet (deceased). He was re-elected in 1722, 1727 and 1734 (when he also contested MP Kent), 1741 and 1747. He stood down in 1754.
