Biography of Henry Stapylton aka Stapleton 1st Baronet 1617-1679

Paternal Family Tree: Stapleton

In 1616 [his father] Bryan Stapleton [age 32] and [his mother] Frances Slingsby [age 20] were married.

In 1617 Henry Stapylton aka Stapleton 1st Baronet was born to [his father] Bryan Stapleton [age 33] and [his mother] Frances Slingsby [age 21].

In 1648 Henry Stapylton aka Stapleton 1st Baronet [age 31] was elected MP Boroughbridge.

On 16th December 1650 Henry Stapylton aka Stapleton 1st Baronet [age 33] and Elizabeth Darcy Lady Stapylton [age 27] were married. She the daughter of Conyers Darcy 1st Earl Holderness [age 51] and Grace Rokeby [age 50]. They were fourth cousin once removed.

In 1651 [his daughter] Grace Stapylton was born to Henry Stapylton aka Stapleton 1st Baronet [age 34] and [his wife] Elizabeth Darcy Lady Stapylton [age 27]. She married in or before 1675 Thomas Robinson and had issue.

On 1st February 1656 [his mother] Frances Slingsby [age 60] died.

In May 1657 [his son] Bryan Stapylton 2nd Baronet was born to Henry Stapylton aka Stapleton 1st Baronet [age 40] and [his wife] Elizabeth Darcy Lady Stapylton [age 33]. He married 15th April 1680 Anne Kaye Lady Stapylton and had issue.

In 1658 [his father] Bryan Stapleton [age 74] died.

In 1660 Henry Stapylton aka Stapleton 1st Baronet [age 43] was elected MP Boroughbridge.

William of Worcester's Chronicle of England

William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

On 22nd June 1660 Henry Stapylton aka Stapleton 1st Baronet [age 43] was created 1st Baronet Stapylton Stapleton of Myton in Yorkshire. [his wife] Elizabeth Darcy Lady Stapylton [age 36] by marriage Lady Stapylton Stapleton of Myton in Yorkshire.

In or before 1675 [his son-in-law] Thomas Robinson [age 22] and [his daughter] Grace Stapylton [age 23] were married.

In 1676 [his brother-in-law] Conyers Darcy 2nd Earl Holderness [age 54] and Frances Seymour Countess Southampton [age 58] were married. She the daughter of William Seymour 2nd Duke of Somerset and Frances Devereux Duchess of Somerset. He the son of [his father-in-law] Conyers Darcy 1st Earl Holderness [age 76] and [his mother-in-law] Grace Rokeby. They were sixth cousins. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

On 26th March 1679 Henry Stapylton aka Stapleton 1st Baronet [age 62] died. He was buried at St Mary's Merton, Southwark. His son Bryan [age 21] succeeded 2nd Baronet Stapylton Stapleton of Myton in Yorkshire and inherited Myton Hall, North Yorkshire.

In 1729 [his former wife] Elizabeth Darcy Lady Stapylton died.
