Biography of John Horace Savile 5th Earl Mexborough 1843-1916

Paternal Family Tree: Savile

In 1842 [his father] John Savile 4th Earl Mexborough (age 31) and [his mother] Rachel Katherine Walpole (age 18) were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Horatio Walpole 3rd Earl Orford (age 58) and [his grandmother] Mary Fawkener Countess Orford (age 54). He the son of [his grandfather] John Savile 3rd Earl Mexborough (age 58) and [his grandmother] Anne Yorke Countess Mexborough (age 59).

In 1843 John Horace Savile 5th Earl Mexborough was born to John Savile 4th Earl Mexborough (age 32) and Rachel Katherine Walpole (age 19).

On 21st June 1854 [his mother] Rachel Katherine Walpole (age 30) died.

In July 1861 [his father] John Savile 4th Earl Mexborough (age 51) and [his step-mother] Agnes Louisa Elizabeth Raphael were married at St Mary's Church, Bryanston Square, Marylebone at which time he converted to his wife's Cathloic faith. He the son of [his grandfather] John Savile 3rd Earl Mexborough and [his grandmother] Anne Yorke Countess Mexborough (age 78).

On 24th April 1867 John Horace Savile 5th Earl Mexborough (age 24) and Venetia Stanley Errington Countess Mexborough were married. She by marriage Countess Mexborough of Lifford in County Donegal. He the son of John Savile 4th Earl Mexborough (age 56) and Rachel Katherine Walpole.

In 1877 John Horace Savile 5th Earl Mexborough (age 34) was appointed High Sheriff of West Yorkshire.

On 17th August 1899 [his father] John Savile 4th Earl Mexborough (age 89) died at Brighton. His son John (age 56) succeeded 5th Earl Mexborough of Lifford in County Donegal.

In April 1906 John Horace Savile 5th Earl Mexborough (age 63) and Sylvia Cecilia Maria Ser-Antoni were married. She by marriage Countess Mexborough of Lifford in County Donegal. He the son of John Savile 4th Earl Mexborough and Rachel Katherine Walpole.

Before 20th August 1915 Captain Claude Clerk and [his wife] Sylvia Cecilia Maria Ser-Antoni were married.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 28th January 1916 John Horace Savile 5th Earl Mexborough (age 73) and Anne Belcher were married. She by marriage Countess Mexborough of Lifford in County Donegal. He died four months later. He the son of John Savile 4th Earl Mexborough and Rachel Katherine Walpole.

On 8th June 1916 John Horace Savile 5th Earl Mexborough (age 73) died. His half brother [his half-brother] John (age 48) succeeded 6th Earl Mexborough of Lifford in County Donegal.

On 1st June 1920 Alfred Charlemagne Lambart and [his wife] Anne Belcher were married.
