In 1465 John Hussey 1st was born to [his father] William Hussey (age 22) and [his mother] Elizabeth Berkeley (age 12) at Sleaford, Lincolnshire.

On 16th June 1471 [his father] William Hussey (age 28) was appointed Attorney General.

Around 1474 [his father] William Hussey (age 31) and [his mother] Elizabeth Berkeley (age 21) were married.

Around May 1478 [his father] William Hussey (age 35) was appointed Serjeant at Law.

On 7th May 1481 [his father] William Hussey (age 38) was appointed Chief Justice of the King's Bench.

Around 1492 John Hussey 1st (age 27) and Margaret Blount (age 17) were married at Keynsham, Gloucestershire [Map].

Around 1493 [his son] William Hussey was born to John Hussey 1st (age 28) and [his wife] Margaret Blount (age 18).

Around 1495 [his son] Giles Hussey was born to John Hussey 1st (age 30) and [his wife] Margaret Blount (age 20). He married Jane Pigot and had issue.

On 8th September 1495 [his father] William Hussey (age 52) died.

Around 1497 [his daughter] Elizabeth Hussey Baroness Hungerford was born to John Hussey 1st (age 32) and [his wife] Margaret Blount (age 22). She married (1) October 1532 Walter Hungerford 1st Baron Hungerford Heytesbury (2) 1542 Robert Throckmorton and had issue.

Battle of Blackheath aka Deptford Bridge

On 17th June 1497 the Cornish rebel army was destroyed at the Battle of Blackheath aka Deptford Bridge.

Richard Guildford (age 47) was created Knight Banneret.

Edward Stafford 2nd Earl Wiltshire (age 27), Henry Willoughby (age 46), Edward Belknapp of Blackfriars in London and Thomas Fiennes 8th Baron Dacre Gilsland (age 25) fought at Deptford, Kent [Map].

Giles Brugge 6th Baron Chandos (age 35), John Hussey 1st (age 32), Robert Sheffield (age 36), Edward Stanhope 1462-1487, John Peche (age 47) and Robert Constable (age 19) were knighted by King Henry VII of England and Ireland (age 40).

Thomas West 8th Baron De La Warr 5th Baron West (age 40) commanded.

James Tuchet 7th Baron Audley, 4th Baron Tuchet (age 34) was captured by Gruffydd ap Rhys ap Thomas Deheubarth (age 19).

On 25th December 1505 George Grey 2nd Earl Kent (age 51) died. His son [his future brother-in-law] Richard (age 24) succeeded 3rd Earl Kent, 6th Baron Grey of Ruthyn. [his sister] Elizabeth Hussey Countess Kent by marriage Countess Kent.

In 1509 John Hussey 1st (age 44) and Anne Grey Baroness Hussey Sleaford (age 19) were married at Sleaford, Lincolnshire. The difference in their ages was 25 years. She the daughter of George Grey 2nd Earl Kent and Katherine Herbert Countess Kent.

In 1509 [his wife] Margaret Blount (age 34) died.

Battle of the Spurs

On 16th August 1513 Henry VIII (age 22) fought at Thérouanne [Map] during the Battle of the Spurs.

Henry's army included George Talbot 4th Earl of Shrewsbury (age 45) (commanded), Thomas Grey 2nd Marquess Dorset (age 36), Thomas Brooke 8th Baron Cobham (age 43), Henry Bourchier 2nd Earl Essex 3rd Count of Eu, John de Vere 15th Earl of Oxford (age 42) and Anthony Wingfield (age 26). John "Tilbury Jack" Arundell (age 18), William Compton (age 31), John Hussey 1st (age 48) and [his brother] William Hussey (age 41) was knighted by King Henry VII of England and Ireland. Thomas West 8th Baron De La Warr 5th Baron West (age 56) and Andrew Windsor 1st Baron Windsor (age 46) was created Knight Banneret.

Louis I d'Orléans Duc de Longueville 1480-1516 was captured.

Arthur Hopton (age 24) was knighted for his bravery.

Around 1516 [his daughter] Anne Hussey was born to John Hussey 1st (age 51) and [his wife] Anne Grey Baroness Hussey Sleaford (age 26). She married in or before 1554 Humphrey Browne and had issue.

Before 19th November 1516 [his brother-in-law] Richard Grey 3rd Earl Kent (age 35) and [his sister] Elizabeth Hussey Countess Kent were married. He the son of George Grey 2nd Earl Kent and Anne Woodville Viscountess Bourchier.

On 19th November 1516 [his sister] Elizabeth Hussey Countess Kent died at Ampthill, Bedfordshire.

In or before 1520 [his brother-in-law] Henry Grey 4th Earl Kent (age 24) and Anne Blenerhassett (age 28) were married. He the son of George Grey 2nd Earl Kent and Katherine Herbert Countess Kent.

In 1521 John Hussey 1st (age 56) was appointed Chief Butler of England.

In 1524 [his former brother-in-law] Richard Grey 3rd Earl Kent (age 43) died at the Sign of the George having much wasted his estate by gaming. His half brother [his brother-in-law] Henry (age 29) succeeded 4th Earl Kent, 7th Baron Grey of Ruthyn although by reason of his slender estate, declined to take upon him the title of Earl. Henry tried, with little success, to reacquire the property his brother Richard had sold, and had to live as a modest gentleman, never formally taking title as earl.

Around 1526 [his daughter] Bridget Hussey Countess Bedford was born to John Hussey 1st (age 61) and [his wife] Anne Grey Baroness Hussey Sleaford (age 36). She married (1) Richard Morrison and had issue (2) after 1559 her fourth cousin Henry Manners 2nd Earl of Rutland, son of Thomas Manners 1st Earl of Rutland and Eleanor Paston Countess Rutland (3) 25th June 1566 Francis Russell 2nd Earl Bedford, son of John Russell 1st Earl Bedford and Anne Sapcote Countess Bedford.

Henry VIII Creates New Peerages

In early December 1529 King Henry VIII of England and Ireland (age 38) created five Baronies...

On 1st December 1529...

Andrew Windsor 1st Baron Windsor (age 62) was created 1st Baron Windsor of Stanwell in Buckinghamshire. Elizabeth Blount Baroness Windsor (age 60) by marriage Baroness Windsor of Stanwell in Buckinghamshire.

John Hussey 1st (age 64) was created 1st Baron Hussey of Sleaford. [his wife] Anne Grey Baroness Hussey Sleaford (age 39) by marriage Baroness Hussey of Sleaford.

On 2nd December 1529...

Thomas Wentworth 1st Baron Wentworth (age 28) was created 1st Baron Wentworth. Margaret Fortescue Baroness Wentworth (age 27) by marriage Baroness Wentworth.

Thomas Burgh 7th Baron Cobham 5th Baron Strabolgi 1st Baron Burgh (age 41) was created 1st Baron Burgh. Agnes Tyrwhitt Baroness Cobham, Strabolgi and Burgh (age 48) by marriage Baroness Burgh. This is regarded as a new creation rather than a continuation of the previous creation Baron Burgh since Thomas's father was never summoned to Parliament due to his insanity. Some sources refer to Thomas as the 3rd Baron Burgh.

On 4th December 1529 Edmund Braye 1st Baron Braye (age 45) was created 1st Baron Braye by writ, which means that it can descend through both male and female lines.

Birth and Christening of Elizabeth I

On 10th September 1533 the future Elizabeth I was christened at the Palace of Placentia, Greenwich [Map].

Gertrude Blount Marchioness of Exeter (age 30), Archbishop Thomas Cranmer (age 44) and Margaret Wotton Marchioness Dorset (age 46) were Godparents.

Henry Bourchier 2nd Earl Essex 3rd Count of Eu carried the covered gilt basin. Charles Brandon 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 49) escorted the Dowager Duchess of Norfolk (age 56). Henry Grey 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 16) carried the Salt. Elizabeth Stafford Duchess Norfolk (age 36) carried the Chrisom. Agnes Tilney Duchess Norfolk carried Queen Elizabeth I of England and Ireland. Henry Courtenay 1st Marquess Exeter (age 37) carried a taper of virgin wax.

Edward Stanley 3rd Earl of Derby (age 24), Thomas Boleyn 1st Earl Wiltshire and Ormonde (age 56), [his brother-in-law] Henry Grey 4th Earl Kent (age 38) and George Boleyn Viscount Rochford (age 30) supported the train of the mantle.

Thomas Howard 3rd Duke of Norfolk (age 60), William Howard 1st Baron Howard (age 23), Thomas Howard (age 22) and John Hussey 1st (age 68) carried the canopy.

Bigod's Rebellion

On 29th June 1537 John Hussey 1st (age 72) was beheaded at Lincoln, Lincolnshire [Map]. Baron Hussey of Sleaford forfeit.

Chronicle of Greyfriars. 14th May 1537. Also the 14th day of May was brought from the Tower [Map] to Westminster the Lord Darcy (age 70) and Lord Hussey (age 72), and there were condemned to death, but they were had in to the North and there sufferd with Aske (age 37).

Chronicle of Greyfriars. 26th June 1537. And the 26th [or 27th] day of June was had in to the North to be hanged and headed Lord Hussey (age 72), Sir Robert Constable (age 59), and Aske (age 37), and they suffered as they were worthy.

Wriothesley's Chronicle [1508-1562]. 30th June 1537. This yeare, the 30th daie of June, the Lord Darcye (age 70) was beheaded at the Tower Hill, and his head sett on London Bridge, and his bodie buried at the Crossed Friars [Map] beside the Tower of London.

Also the Lord Hussey (deceased) was beheaded at Lyncolne, and Sir Robert Constable (age 59) was hanged at Hull in Yorkeshire in chaines. Aske (age 37) was hanged in the cittie of Yorke in chaines till he died.

Writes this by George Pery, a gentleman of M. Chappuys, the Emperor's ambassador. Here at Stepney this morning arrived Rougecroix the herald with Wyat's letters dated 24 June. Forwarded them straightway to the King at Oking. Thanks him for his letters written at his first arrival before he had audience and for those now received. Touching communications with the Emperor's ambassadors, of which Cromwell wrote by M. de Vauldray, hopes for a good result. No news since last writing. The traitors have been executed, lord Darcy (deceased) at Tower Hill and lord Hussey (deceased) at Lincoln, Aske (age 37) hanged upon the dungeon of York Castle, Sir Robt. Constable (deceased) hanged at Hull, and the rest at Thyfbourne; so that all the cankered hearts are weeded away.

The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed."
