The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

Biography of John St Aubyn 3rd Baronet 1696-1744

Paternal Family Tree: St Aubyn

On 22nd May 1695 [his father] John St Aubyn 2nd Baronet (age 24) and [his mother] Mary de la Hay were married.

On 27th September 1696 John St Aubyn 3rd Baronet was born to [his father] John St Aubyn 2nd Baronet (age 26) and [his mother] Mary de la Hay.

On 20th June 1714 [his father] John St Aubyn 2nd Baronet (age 44) died. His son John (age 17) succeeded 3rd Baronet St Aubyn of Clowance in Cornwall.

On 10th June 1718 John St Aubyn 3rd Baronet (age 21) entered Exeter College, Oxford University as a gentleman-commoner. He was awarded MA on 19th July 1721.

In 1722 John St Aubyn 3rd Baronet (age 25) was elected MP Cornwall unopposed. He was re-elected unopposed in 1727, 1734 and 1741.

On 3rd October 1725 John St Aubyn 3rd Baronet (age 29) and Catherine Morice Lady St Aubyn were married at St James' Church, Piccadilly. She brough £10,000 cash to the marriage, and the manor of Stoke-Damerel, including Devonport.

On 12th November 1726 [his son] John St Aubyn 4th Baronet was born to John St Aubyn 3rd Baronet (age 30) and [his wife] Catherine Morice Lady St Aubyn. He married May 1756 Elizabeth Wingfield Lady St Aubyn and had issue.

Around 1730 [his daughter] Barbara St Aubyn Lady Molesworth was born to John St Aubyn 3rd Baronet (age 33) and [his wife] Catherine Morice Lady St Aubyn. She married 22nd July 1762 her first cousin John Molesworth 5th Baronet, son of John Molesworth 4th Baronet and Barbara Morice Lady Molesworth, and had issue.

On 16th June 1740 [his wife] Catherine Morice Lady St Aubyn died. She was buried at St Crewenna's Church, Crowan.

Around 20th August 1744 John St Aubyn 3rd Baronet (age 47) died at Pencarrow House, Cornwall. He was buried at St Crewenna's Church, Crowan on 23rd August 1744. His son John (age 17) succeeded 4th Baronet St Aubyn of Clowance in Cornwall.

[his daughter] Mary St Aubyn was born to John St Aubyn 3rd Baronet and Catherine Morice Lady St Aubyn. She married 3rd March 1760 John Buller and had issue.
