Biography of John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich 1811-1884

On 9th July 1804 [his father] George Montagu 6th Earl Sandwich (age 31) and [his mother] Louisa Lowry-Corry Countess of Sandwich (age 23) were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Armar Lowry-Corry 1st Earl Belmore and [his grandmother] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 42). He the son of [his grandfather] John Montagu 5th Earl Sandwich (age 60) and [his grandmother] Maria Henrietta Powlett.

On 8th November 1811 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich was born to George Montagu 6th Earl Sandwich (age 38) and Louisa Lowry-Corry Countess of Sandwich (age 30). He was educated at Eton College [Map].

On 21st May 1818 [his father] George Montagu 6th Earl Sandwich (age 45) died. He was buried at All Saints Church, Barnwell [Map]. His son John (age 6) succeeded 7th Earl Sandwich.

In October 1829, Michaelmas Term, John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 17) matriculated Trinity College, Cambridge University [Map].

On 5th July 1831 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 19) played for the Cambridge University cricket team against Cambridge Town; he scored two runs.

In 1832 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 20) was commissioned Ensign in the Grenadier Guards.

On 20th May 1832 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 20) played for the Cambridge University cricket team against Cambridge Town; he scored two runs.

On 6th September 1838 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 26) and Mary Paget Countess Sandwich (age 26) were married. She by marriage Countess Sandwich. She the daughter of Henry William Paget 1st Marquess Anglesey (age 70) and Charlotte Cadogan Marchioness Anglesey (age 57). He the son of George Montagu 6th Earl Sandwich and Louisa Lowry-Corry Countess of Sandwich (age 57).

On 13th July 1839 [his son] Edward Montagu 8th Earl Sandwich was born to John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 27) and [his wife] Mary Paget Countess Sandwich (age 27).

In 1841 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 29) was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Huntingdonshire which office he held for life.

On 20th April 1841 [his son] Rear-Admiral Victor Alexander Montagu was born to John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 29) and [his wife] Mary Paget Countess Sandwich (age 28).

On 12th August 1842 [his son] Sydney Montagu was born to John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 30) and [his wife] Mary Paget Countess Sandwich (age 30).

In 1846 [his daughter] Emily Caroline Montagu Lady Dyke was born to John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 34) and [his wife] Mary Paget Countess Sandwich (age 33).

On 27th April 1847 Henry Wellesley 1st Baron Cowley (age 74) died. His son [his brother-in-law] Henry (age 42) succeeded 2nd Baron Cowley.

On 2nd February 1852 [his brother-in-law] Henry Richard Charles Wellesley 1st Earl Cowley (age 47) was appointed Privy Council.

The London Gazette 21397. St. James's-Palace, December 30, 1852. The Queen has been pleased to appoint Thomas Henry Lord Foley (age 44) to be Captain of Her Majesty's Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, in the room of John-William (age 41), Earl of Sandwich, resigned.

On 29th April 1854 [his father-in-law] Henry William Paget 1st Marquess Anglesey (age 85) died. His son [his brother-in-law] Henry (age 56) succeeded 2nd Marquess Anglesey, 3rd Earl Uxbridge, 11th Baron Paget Beaudasert, 5th Baronet Bayly of Plas Newydd in Anglesey. Henrietta Bagot Marchioness Anglesey by marriage Marchioness Anglesey.

On 11th April 1857 [his brother-in-law] Henry Richard Charles Wellesley 1st Earl Cowley (age 52) was created 1st Earl Cowley, 1st Viscount Dangan of Meath.

The London Gazette 22106. Master of the Horse's Office, February 26, 1858. The Queen has been graciously pleased to appoint the Right Honourable John William (age 46), Earl of Sandwich, to be Master of Her Majesty's Buck Hounds, in the room of the Right Honourable John George Brabazon (age 48), Earl of Bessborough, resigned.

On 20th February 1859 [his wife] Mary Paget Countess Sandwich (age 46) died. Her remains were moved to All Saints Church, Barnwell [Map] on 16th June 1884.

The Queen has been pleased to appoint the Right Honourable John George Brabazon (age 49), Earl of Bessborough, to be Master of Her Majesty's Buckhounds,.in the room of the Right Honourable John William (age 47), Earl of Sandwich, resigned.

On 4th April 1860 [his son] Sydney Montagu (age 17) died. His remains were moved to All Saints Church, Barnwell [Map] on 16th June 1884.

On 19th April 1862 [his mother] Louisa Lowry-Corry Countess of Sandwich (age 81) died. She was buried at All Saints Church, Barnwell [Map].

In 1865 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 53) and Blanche Leveson-Gower aka Egerton Countess Sandwich (age 32) were married. She by marriage Countess Sandwich. The difference in their ages was 20 years. She the daughter of Francis Leveson Gower aka Egerton 1st Earl Ellesmere and Harriet Greville Countess Ellesmere (age 62). He the son of George Montagu 6th Earl Sandwich and Louisa Lowry-Corry Countess of Sandwich. They were fifth cousins.

On 30th May 1870 [his son-in-law] William Hart Dyke 7th Baronet (age 32) and [his daughter] Emily Caroline Montagu Lady Dyke (age 24) were married. She the daughter of John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 58) and [his former wife] Mary Paget Countess Sandwich.

On 3rd March 1884 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich (age 72) died. He was buried at All Saints Church, Barnwell [Map] on 16th June 1884 at which time the Montagu vault was closed. His son [his son] Edward (age 44) succeeded 8th Earl Sandwich.

On 20th March 1894 [his former wife] Blanche Leveson-Gower aka Egerton Countess Sandwich (age 62) died.
