Paternal Family Tree: Roper
On 13th October 1739 Philip Roper Roper was born to [his father] Henry Roper 10th Baron Teynham (age 31).
On 2nd June 1753 [his brother] Henry Roper 11th Baron Teynham (age 20) and [his sister-in-law] Maria Wilhelmina Head were married. A Marriage of Two Sets of Siblings; her sister Anna Gabriella Head would subsequently marry his brother [his brother] John Roper (age 18). Further, their two younger brothers [his brother] Francis Roper (age 15) and Philip Roper Roper (age 13) also married siblings [his future sister-in-law] Mary Lyttelton (age 19) and [his future wife] Barbara Lyttelton respectively.
On 21st March 1760 [his brother] John Roper (age 25) and Anna Gabriella Head were married. A Marriage of Two Sets of Siblings; her sister [his former sister-in-law] Maria Wilhelmina Head had previously married his brother [his brother] Henry Roper 11th Baron Teynham (age 26). Further, their two younger brothers [his brother] Francis Roper (age 22) and Philip Roper Roper (age 20) also married siblings [his future sister-in-law] Mary Lyttelton (age 26) and [his future wife] Barbara Lyttelton respectively.
On 27th June 1765 [his brother] Francis Roper (age 27) and [his future sister-in-law] Mary Lyttelton (age 31) were married. A Marriage of Two Sets of Siblings; her sister Mary Lyttelton would subsequently marry his brother Philip Roper Roper (age 25).
On 21st March 1766 Philip Roper Roper (age 26) and Barbara Lyttelton were married. A Marriage of Two Sets of Siblings; her sister Mary Lyttelton (age 32) was previously married to his brother Francis Roper (age 28). Further, their two older brothers John Roper (age 31) and Henry Roper 11th Baron Teynham (age 32) also married siblings Anna Gabriella Head and Maria Wilhelmina Head respectively.
On 21st April 1781 [his father] Henry Roper 10th Baron Teynham (age 73) died. His son [his brother] Henry (age 47) succeeded 11th Baron Teynham of Teynham in Kent.
On 10th December 1786 [his brother] Henry Roper 11th Baron Teynham (age 53) died. His son [his nephew] Henry (age 22) succeeded 12th Baron Teynham of Teynham in Kent.
The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.
