The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 23rd April 1680 Richard Edgecumbe 1st was born to [his uncle] Richard Edgecumbe (age 40) and [his mother] Anne Montagu.
On 3rd April 1688 [his uncle] Richard Edgecumbe (age 48) died.
In 1697 Richard Edgecumbe 1st (age 16) admitted at Trinity College, Cambridge University [Map].
In June 1701 Richard Edgecumbe 1st (age 21) was elected MP Cornwall.
Before 3rd March 1720 Richard Edgecumbe 1st (age 39) and Matilda Furnese were married.
On 3rd March 1720 [his son] George Edgecumbe 1st Earl of Mount Edgcumbe was born to Richard Edgecumbe 1st (age 39) and [his wife] Matilda Furnese. He married 16th August 1761 Emma Gilbert Countess Mount Edgcumbe, daughter of Archbishop George Gilbert and Margaret Sherard, and had issue.
In 1721 [his wife] Matilda Furnese died.
In 1729 [his mother] Anne Montagu died.
In 1742 Richard Edgecumbe 1st (age 61) was created 1st Baron Edgcumbe.
On 22nd November 1758 Richard Edgecumbe 1st (age 78) died. His son George Edgecumbe (age 38) succeeded 2nd Baron Edgcumbe.
Christopher Montagu and [his mother] Anne Montagu were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Edward Montagu 1st Earl Sandwich and [his grandmother] Jemima Crew Countess Sandwich. They were second cousins.
