In 1536, two weeks after the execution of Anne Boleyn, her brother George and four others, Lancelot du Carle, wrote an extraordinary letter that described Anne's life, and her trial and execution, to which he was a witness. This book presents a new translation of that letter, with additional material from other contemporary sources such as Letters, Hall's and Wriothesley's Chronicles, the pamphlets of Wynkyn the Worde, the Memorial of George Constantyne, the Portuguese Letter and the Baga de Secrets, all of which are provided in Appendices.

She the daughter of [his grandfather] George Hamilton 1st Earl Orkney [aged 58] and [his grandmother] Elizabeth Villiers Countess Orkney [aged 67]. He the son of Richard Lumley 1st Earl Scarborough and Frances Jones Countess Scarborough. They were fourth cousins.
In May 1725 Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough was born to [his father] Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough [aged 34] and [his mother] Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough.
On 29th January 1740 [his uncle] Richard Lumley 2nd Earl Scarborough [aged 53] committed suicide by shooting himself through the roof of the mouth possibly as a result of his having told the Dowager Duchess of Manchester [aged 34], who he had intended to marry the following day, a state secret which she then shared with her grandmother Sarah Jennings Duchess of Marlborough [aged 79] who shared it with William Pulteney 1st Earl Bath [aged 55] who shared it with everyone else. His brother [his father] Thomas [aged 49] succeeded 3rd Earl of Scarborough, 4th Viscount Lumley, 3rd Baron Lumley. [his mother] Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough by marriage Countess of Scarborough. He left his estates to his youngest brother James Lumley [aged 34].
On 4th February 1740 Richard Lumley 2nd Earl Scarborough was buried at the Grosvenor Chapel, Mayfair.
On 15th March 1752 [his father] Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough [aged 61] died. His son Richard [aged 26] succeeded 4th Earl of Scarborough, 5th Viscount Lumley, 4th Baron Lumley.
Before 1753 Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough [aged 27] and Barbara Savile Countess Scarborough were married. She by marriage Countess of Scarborough. He the son of Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough and Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough.
On 22nd September 1753 [his son] George Lumley-Saunderson 5th Earl Scarborough was born to Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough [aged 28] and [his wife] Barbara Savile Countess Scarborough.
In 1755 Peter Ludlow 1st Earl Ludlow [aged 24] was created 1st Baron Ludlow of Ardsalaa in Meath. [his sister] Frances Lumley-Saunderson Countess Ludlow by marriage Baroness Ludlow of Ardsalaa in Meath.
On 16th April 1757 [his son] Richard Lumley-Saunderson 6th Earl Scarborough was born to Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough [aged 31] and [his wife] Barbara Savile Countess Scarborough. He married before 17th June 1832 Henrietta Willoughby Viscountess Lumley, daughter of Henry Willoughby 5th Baron Middleton and Dorothy Cartright Baroness Middleton.
In 1760 Peter Ludlow 1st Earl Ludlow [aged 29] was created 1st Earl Ludlow, 1st Viscount Preston of Ardsalaa in Meath. [his sister] Frances Lumley-Saunderson Countess Ludlow by marriage Countess Ludlow.
The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

On 17th October 1761 [his son] Frederick Lumley-Savile was born to Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough [aged 36] and [his wife] Barbara Savile Countess Scarborough.
On 30th November 1761 Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough [aged 36] was appointed Deputy Lieutenant Lincolnshire.
In 1765 Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough [aged 39] was appointed Privy Council.
On 14th March 1766 [his uncle] James Lumley [aged 60] died unmarried, heavily in debt. He left his Durham estates to his nephew Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough [aged 40] and his Sussex estates to his nephew George Montagu Dunk 2nd Earl Halifax [aged 49].
On 30th September 1772 [his mother] Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough died.
On 12th May 1782 Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough [aged 57] died. His son George [aged 28] succeeded 5th Earl of Scarborough, 6th Viscount Lumley, 5th Baron Lumley.
