All About History Books
The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In September 1554 [his father] Henry Berkeley 7th Baron Berkeley (age 19) and [his mother] Katherine Howard Baroness Berkeley (age 16) were married at Kenninghall, Norfolk. She by marriage Baroness Berkeley. They were fourth cousin once removed.
On 15th July 1575 Thomas Berkeley was born to Henry Berkeley 7th Baron Berkeley (age 40) and Katherine Howard Baroness Berkeley (age 37).
On 2nd February 1589 Thomas Berkeley (age 13) commenced studies at Gray's Inn.
On 27th June 1590 Thomas Berkeley (age 14) was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford University.
On 7th April 1596 [his mother] Katherine Howard Baroness Berkeley (age 58) died at Caludon, Coventry. She was buried at Draper's Chapel, St Michael's Church, Coventry.
On 9th March 1598 [his father] Henry Berkeley 7th Baron Berkeley (age 63) and [his step-mother] Jane Stanhope Baroness Berkeley (age 51) were married at St Giles without Cripplegate Church [Map]. She by marriage Baroness Berkeley.
Before 1601 Thomas Berkeley (age 25) and Elizabeth Carey (age 24) were married. They were third cousin once removed.
On 7th October 1601 [his son] George Berkeley 8th Baron Berkeley was born to Thomas Berkeley (age 26) and [his wife] Elizabeth Carey (age 25).
On 23rd July 1603 King James I of England and Ireland and VI of Scotland (age 37) created a number Knights at the Royal Gardens Whitehall Palace:

On 22nd November 1611 Thomas Berkeley (age 36) died. He was buried at St Michael's Church, Coventry.
On 23rd April 1635 [his former wife] Elizabeth Carey (age 58) died. She was buried at St Dunstan Church, Cranford.
