Chronicle of Abbot Ralph of Coggeshall
The Chronicle of Abbot Ralph of Coggeshall (Chronicon Anglicanum) is an indispensable medieval history that brings to life centuries of English and European affairs through the eyes of a learned Cistercian monk. In 1560 [his grandfather] Thomas Sandys 2nd Baron Sandys of the Vyne (age 63) died. In 1560 His grandson William (age 17) succeeded 3rd Baron Sandys of The Vyne in Hampshire.
In or before 1565 William Sandys 3rd Baron Sandys of the Vyne (age 21) and Katharine Brydges Baroness Sandys (age 9) were married. She by marriage Baroness Sandys of The Vyne in Hampshire. They were fifth cousin once removed.
In 1569 William Sandys 3rd Baron Sandys of the Vyne (age 26) was visited by Queen Elizabeth I of England and Ireland (age 35) at The Vyne, Sherbourne St John [Map].
Around 1570 [his daughter] Elizabeth Sandes was born to William Sandys 3rd Baron Sandys of the Vyne (age 27) and [his wife] Katharine Brydges Baroness Sandys (age 15). She married before 15th March 1608 Edwin Sandes and had issue.
In 1572 [his mother] Elizabeth Windsor died.
Before 28th November 1572 [his step-father] Ralph Scrope (age 54) and [his mother] Elizabeth Windsor were married.
After 1597 William Sandys 3rd Baron Sandys of the Vyne (age 54) and Christian Annesley Baroness Sandys (age 22) were married. She by marriage Baroness Sandys of The Vyne in Hampshire. The difference in their ages was 32 years.
Before 8th December 1597 [his wife] Katharine Brydges Baroness Sandys (age 42) died.
Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'
