Deeds of King Henry V

Henrici Quinti, Angliæ Regis, Gesta, is a first-hand account of the Agincourt Campaign, and subsequent events to his death in 1422. The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.

Around 1238 Alan Fitzalan of Bedale was born to Brian Fitzalan (age 65) in Bedale.

On 17th July 1242 Bryan Penthièvre (age 97) died at Bedale.

In 1298 Agnes aka Matilda Fitzalan was born to Brian Fitzalan 1st Baron Fitzalan of Bedale (age 24) in Bedale. She married before 1320 Gilbert Stapleton and had issue.

Around 1300 Catherine Fitzalan Baroness Grey Rotherfield was born to Brian Fitzalan 1st Baron Fitzalan of Bedale (age 26) in Bedale. She married before 1st March 1312 John Grey 1st Baron Grey, son of John Grey and Margaret Oddingseles Baroness Grey Rotherfield, and had issue.

On 3rd November 1348 Agnes aka Matilda Fitzalan (age 50) died in Bedale.

On 10th April 1419 Miles Stapleton (age 61) died at Bedale.

Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans

Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.

Around 1446 Joan Stapleton Lady Millom was born to Miles Stapleton of Ightham in Norfolk (age 36) and Katherine de la Pole (age 30) at Bedale. She married John Huddlestone 7th Lord Millom and had issue.

On 10th February 1474 Alice Deincourt 6th Baroness Deincourt and Grey, Baroness Lovel and Sudeley (age 69) died at Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire. Her grandson Francis (age 18) succeeded 8th Baron Deincourt, 8th Baron Grey of Rotherfield, and the feudal barony of Bedale.

On 13th May 1519 Joan Stapleton Lady Millom (age 73) died at Bedale.

In 1524 Christopher Wray was born to Thomas Wray and Joan Jackson at Bedale. He married Anne Girlington and had issue.

On 14th June 1595 Godfrey Foljambe (age 36) died at Bedale. On 12th February 1623 Isabel Wray Baroness Darcy died. Monument in St Mary and All Saints Church, Chesterfield [Map] to Godfrey Foljambe and Isabel Wray Baroness Darcy.

Godfrey Foljambe: Godfrey Foljambe and Isabel Wray Baroness Darcy were married. On 21st November 1558 he was born to Godfrey Foljambe and Troth Tyrwhitt at Walton, Derbyshire [Map].

Isabel Wray Baroness Darcy: she was born to Christopher Wray and Anne Girlington. After 14th June 1595 William Bowes and she were married. On 7th May 1617 John Darcy 3rd Baron Darcy Aston and she were married. She by marriage Baroness Darcy of Aston.
