Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses

Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

11th March 1915. Uncle Cecil Knatchbull-Hugessen 4th Baron Brabourne (age 51) succeeded.

15th February 1933. Son Michael Knatchbull 5th Baron Brabourne (age 37) succeeded.

23rd February 1939. Son Norton Knatchbull 6th Baron Brabourne (age 17) succeeded.

15th September 1943. Brother John Knatchbull 7th Baron Brabourne (age 18) succeeded.

23rd September 2005. Son Norton Knatchbull 3rd Earl Mountbatten of Burma (age 57) succeeded.

In 1880 Edward Knatchbull-Hugessen 1st Baron Brabourne (age 50) was created 1st Baron Bradbourne.

On 6th February 1893 Edward Knatchbull-Hugessen 1st Baron Brabourne (age 63) died. His son Edward (age 35) succeeded 2nd Baron Bradbourne.

On 29th December 1909 Edward Knatchbull-Hugessen 2nd Baron Brabourne (age 52) died. His son Wyndham (age 24) succeeded 3rd Baron Bradbourne.

On 11th March 1915 Wyndham Knatchbull-Hugessen 3rd Baron Brabourne (age 29) was killed in action. He was unmarried. His uncle Cecil (age 51) succeeded 4th Baron Bradbourne.

On the previous day the 1st Battalion of the Grenadier Guards took up reserve positions near Neuve Chapelle, and the following day sustained heavy casualties as they crossed the Rue Tilleloy. Sixteen officers and 325 other soldiers were lost that day, according to the battalion's war diary. He has no known grave, but his name is included on the La Touret Memorial in Bethune, France, and there is a memorial for him in his village's parish church.

On 29th January 1919 Michael Knatchbull 5th Baron Brabourne (age 23) and Doreen Browne Baroness Brabourne (age 22) were married at St Peter's Church, Eaton Square. She by marriage Baroness Bradbourne.

On 15th February 1933 Cecil Knatchbull-Hugessen 4th Baron Brabourne (age 69) died. His son Michael (age 37) succeeded 5th Baron Bradbourne, 14th Baronet Knatchbull of Mersham Hatch in Kent.

On 23rd February 1939 Michael Knatchbull 5th Baron Brabourne (age 43) died. His son Norton (age 17) succeeded 6th Baron Bradbourne, 15th Baronet Knatchbull of Mersham Hatch in Kent.

On 15th September 1943 Norton Knatchbull 6th Baron Brabourne (age 21) was executed by the SS in Bronzolo after having attempted to escape whilst on his way to captivity. He was buried in Padua War Cemetery. His brother John (age 18) succeeded 7th Baron Bradbourne, 16th Baronet Knatchbull of Mersham Hatch in Kent.

On 23rd September 2005 John Knatchbull 7th Baron Brabourne (age 80) died. His son Norton (age 57) succeeded 8th Baron Bradbourne, 17th Baronet Knatchbull of Mersham Hatch in Kent.
