Baron Burgh

Baron Burgh is in Baronies of England Alphabetically.

There have been three creations of Baron Burgh:

1st. 10th December 1327. William Donn Burgh 3rd Earl of Ulster 1312-1333. Extinct. 6th June 1333.

2nd. 1st September 1487. Thomas Burgh 1st Baron Burgh of Gainsborough 1431-1496. Extinct. 18th March 1496.

3rd. 4th December 1529. Thomas Burgh 7th Baron Cobham 5th Baron Strabolgi 1st Baron Burgh 1488-1550. Abeyant. 26th February 1602.

Baron Burgh 1st Creation 1327

Summary

10th December 1327. William Donn Burgh 3rd Earl of Ulster created.

6th June 1333. Gylle de Burgh extinct.

On 10th December 1327 William Donn Burgh 3rd Earl of Ulster (age 15) was summoned to Parliament as Baron Burgh.

On 6th June 1333 William Donn Burgh 3rd Earl of Ulster (age 20) was murdered by Richard de Mandeville in revenge for the murder of Richard's wife's brother Walter Liath de Burgh the year before. Earl of Ulster and Baron Burgh extinct. There is some argument that his daughter Elizabeth Burgh Duchess of Clarence succeeded as Countess of Ulster although her husband Lionel of Antwerp 1st Duke of Clarence appears to have been Earl of Ulster of a new creation. Baron Burgh 2nd Creation 1487

Summary

1st September 1487. Thomas Burgh 1st Baron Burgh of Gainsborough created.

18th March 1496. Edward Burgh extinct.

On 1st September 1487 Thomas Burgh 1st Baron Burgh of Gainsborough (age 56) was summoned to Parliament as Baron Burgh although he appears not to have attended so there is some ambiguity about this creation. Margaret Ros Baroness Botreaux Baroness Burgh (age 57) by marriage Baroness Burgh.

On 18th March 1496 Thomas Burgh 1st Baron Burgh of Gainsborough (age 65) died. He was buried at Holy Trinity Church Gainsborough. His son Edward Burgh (age 33) was deemed insane so not summoned to Parliament; Baron Burgh extinct.

Summary

4th December 1529. Thomas Burgh 7th Baron Cobham 5th Baron Strabolgi 1st Baron Burgh created. See Henry VIII Creates New Peerages.

28th February 1550. Son William Burgh 8th Baron Cobham 6th Baron Strabolgi 2nd Baron Burgh succeeded.

10th September 1584. Son Thomas Burgh 9th Baron Cobham 7th Baron Strabolgi 3rd Baron Burgh succeeded.

14th October 1597. Son Robert Burgh 10th Baron Cobham 8th Baron Strabolgi 4th Baron Burgh succeeded.

26th February 1602. Robert Burgh 10th Baron Cobham 8th Baron Strabolgi 4th Baron Burgh abeyant.

In early December 1529 King Henry VIII of England and Ireland (age 38) created five Baronies ...

On 1st December 1529 ...

Andrew Windsor 1st Baron Windsor (age 62) was created 1st Baron Windsor of Stanwell in Buckinghamshire. Elizabeth Blount Baroness Windsor (age 60) by marriage Baroness Windsor of Stanwell in Buckinghamshire.

John Hussey 1st Baron Hussey of Sleaford (age 64) was created 1st Baron Hussey of Sleaford. Anne Grey Baroness Hussey Sleaford by marriage Baroness Hussey of Sleaford.

On 2nd December 1529 ...

Thomas Wentworth 1st Baron Wentworth (age 28) was created 1st Baron Wentworth. Margaret Fortescue Baroness Wentworth (age 27) by marriage Baroness Wentworth.

Thomas Burgh 7th Baron Cobham 5th Baron Strabolgi 1st Baron Burgh (age 41) was created 1st Baron Burgh. Agnes Tyrwhitt Baroness Cobham, Strabolgi and Burgh (age 48) by marriage Baroness Burgh. This is regarded as a new creation rather than a continuation of the previous creation Baron Burgh since Thomas's father was never summoned to Parliament due to his insanity. Some sources refer to Thomas as the 3rd Baron Burgh.

On 4th December 1529 Edmund Braye 1st Baron Braye (age 45) was created 1st Baron Braye by writ, which means that it can descend through both male and female lines.

On 28th February 1550 Thomas Burgh 7th Baron Cobham 5th Baron Strabolgi 1st Baron Burgh (age 62) died. His son William (age 17) succeeded 8th Baron Cobham, 6th Baron Strabolgi, 2nd Baron Burgh.

Before 10th September 1584 William Burgh 8th Baron Cobham 6th Baron Strabolgi 2nd Baron Burgh (age 51) and Katherine Clinton Baroness Cobham, Strabolgi and Burgh (age 46) were married. She by marriage Baroness Cobham, Baroness Strabolgi, Baroness Burgh. She the daughter of Edward Clinton 1st Earl Lincoln (age 72) and Elizabeth "Bessie" Blount Baroness Clinton and Tailboys. They were fifth cousin once removed. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward III of England.

On 10th September 1584 William Burgh 8th Baron Cobham 6th Baron Strabolgi 2nd Baron Burgh (age 51) died. His son Thomas (age 26) succeeded 9th Baron Cobham, 7th Baron Strabolgi, 3rd Baron Burgh.

On 14th October 1597 Thomas Burgh 9th Baron Cobham 7th Baron Strabolgi 3rd Baron Burgh (age 39) died at Newry, County Down. His son Robert (age 3) succeeded 10th Baron Cobham, 8th Baron Strabolgi, 4th Baron Burgh.

On 26th February 1602 Robert Burgh 10th Baron Cobham 8th Baron Strabolgi 4th Baron Burgh (age 8) died. Baron Cobham, Baron Strabolgi and Baron Burgh abeyant between his four sisters Elizabeth Burgh, Frances Burgh, Anne Burgh and Katherine Burgh.
