Deeds of King Henry V

Henrici Quinti, Angliæ Regis, Gesta, is a first-hand account of the Agincourt Campaign, and subsequent events to his death in 1422. The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.

On 21st January 1700 Henry Somerset 1st Duke Beaufort (age 71) died at Badminton, Gloucestershire. He was buried at Beaufort Chapel, St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle [Map]. His grandson Henry (age 15) succeeded 2nd Duke Beaufort, 4th Marquess Worcester, 8th Earl Worcester, 10th Baron Herbert of Raglan.

On 7th July 1702 Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort (age 18) and Mary Sackville 2nd Duchess Beaufort (age 13) were married. She by marriage Duchess Beaufort. She the daughter of Charles Sackville 6th Earl Dorset 1st Earl Middlesex (age 59) and Mary Compton Countess Dorset and Middlesex. They were fourth cousins.

On 26th February 1706 Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort (age 21) and Rachel Noel Duchess Beaufort (age 19) were married. She by marriage Duchess Beaufort. She the daughter of Wriothesley Baptist Noel 2nd Earl Gainsborough and Catherine Greville Duchess Buckingham and Normandby. They were fourth cousins.

The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy

The Gesta Normannorum Ducum [The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy] is a landmark medieval chronicle tracing the rise and fall of the Norman dynasty from its early roots through the pivotal events surrounding the Norman Conquest of England. On 24th November 1924 Henry Adelbert Wellington Fitzroy 9th Duke Beaufort (age 77) died at Badminton House. He was buried at St Michael and all Angels Church, Badminton. His son Henry (age 24) succeeded 10th Duke Beaufort, 12th Marquess Worcester, 16th Earl Worcester, 18th Baron Herbert of Raglan, 10th Baron Botetort.

On 5th February 1984 Henry Hugh Arthur Fitzroy Somerset 10th Duke Beaufort (age 83) died at Badminton House without issue. He was buried at St Michael and all Angels Church, Badminton. His first cousin twice removed David (age 55) succeeded 11th Duke Beaufort, 13th Marquess Worcester, 17th Earl Worcester, 19th Baron Herbert of Raglan. Baron Botetort abeyant. The History of William Marshal, Earl of Chepstow and Pembroke, Regent of England. Book 1 of 2, Lines 1-10152.

The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.
