Duke Suffolk (1st Creation)

In 1448 William "Jackanapes" de la Pole 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 51) was created 1st Duke Suffolk by King Henry VI of England and II of France (age 26). Alice Chaucer Duchess Suffolk (age 44) by marriage Duchess Suffolk.

On 23rd March 1463 John de la Pole 2nd Duke of Suffolk (age 20) was restored 2nd Duke Suffolk. Elizabeth York Duchess Suffolk (age 18) by marriage Duchess Suffolk.

Before 27th October 1492 John de la Pole 2nd Duke of Suffolk (age 50) died. He was buried at Wingfield, Suffolk. Before 27th October 1492 His son Edmund (age 21) succeeded 3rd Duke Suffolk, 3rd Marquess Suffolk 1C, 6th Earl Suffolk, 6th Baron Pole.

Before 10th October 1496 Edmund Pole 3rd Duke of Suffolk (age 25) and Margaret Scrope Duchess Suffolk were married. She by marriage Duchess Suffolk. He the son of John de la Pole 2nd Duke of Suffolk and Elizabeth York Duchess Suffolk (age 52). They were half second cousin once removed. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

On 26th December 1502 Edmund Pole 3rd Duke of Suffolk (age 31) was proclaimed an outlaw at Ipswich, Suffolk [Map] for assuming his former title Duke Suffolk.

On 30th April 1513 Edmund Pole 3rd Duke of Suffolk (age 42) was beheaded at Tower Hill [Map] on the instruction of King Henry VIII after having been imprisoned for seven years. Duke Suffolk, Marquess Suffolk 1C and Earl Suffolk, Baron Pole forfeit.

He, Edmund, was the son of Elizabeth York Duchess Suffolk, sister of Kings Edward IV and Richard III, and George, Duke of Clarence. He, arguably, had a better claim to the throne of England than King Henry VII if King Edward IV's children were illegitimate, and George's children barred from the succession as a consequence of George'a attainder although Anne St Leger's (age 37) claim better since she descended from an older sister Anne.

He, Edmund, had been given to King Henry VII of England and Ireland as part of the treaty of Malus Intercursus aka Evil Treaty with the condition that he not be executed. King Henry VII in his will instructed his son King Henry VIII to have him executed; an act which attracted the criticism of Montaigne in Chapter 7 of his Essays.

She had married Louis XII King France in Oct 1514; he had died on 01 Jan 1515. Around this time he surrendered the title Viscount Lisle which he had been created in anticipation of this marriage to Elizabeth Grey Countess Devon (age 10) which never took place. She the daughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland and Elizabeth York Queen Consort England. They were fifth cousins.

On 7th September 1533 Charles Brandon 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 49) and Catherine Willoughby Duchess Suffolk (age 14) were married. She by marriage Duchess Suffolk. The difference in their ages was 35 years. They were fifth cousin once removed.

On 22nd August 1545 Charles Brandon 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 61) died. His son Henry (age 9) succeeded 2nd Duke Suffolk, 2nd Viscount Lisle.

On 14th July 1551 the two Brandon brothers died of sweating sickness at the Bishop of Lincoln's Palace, Buckden [Map]. They were buried at St Mary's Church, Buckden [Map].

Henry Brandon 2nd Duke of Suffolk (age 15) died of sweating sickness . His brother Charles (age 14) succeeded 3rd Duke Suffolk, 3rd Viscount Lisle.
