Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke

Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson.

On 25th March 1864 William Leonard Addington 2nd Viscount Sidmouth [aged 69] died. His son William [aged 40] succeeded 3rd Viscount Sidmouth. Georgiana Susan Pellew Viscountess Sidmouth [aged 34] by marriage Viscountess Sidmouth.

On 28th October 1913 William Wells Addington 3rd Viscount Sidmouth [aged 89] died. His son Gerald [aged 59] succeeded 4th Viscount Sidmouth.

In 1915 Gerald Addington 4th Viscount Sidmouth [aged 61] died. His son Gerald [aged 32] succeeded 5th Viscount Sidmouth.

On 4th April 1953 Gerald William Addington 5th Viscount Sidmouth [aged 70] died without issue. His brother Raymond [aged 66] succeeded 6th Viscount Sidmouth.

On 7th February 1976 Raymond Anthony Addington 6th Viscount Sidmouth [aged 89] died. His son John [aged 61] succeeded 7th Viscount Sidmouth.

On 30th January 2005 John Addington 7th Viscount Sidmouth [aged 90] died. His son Jeremy [aged 57] succeeded 8th Viscount Sidmouth.
