The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." Esq; late of the Island of Jamaica, deceased, and Sister to the said John Earl of St. Vincent, and the Heirs Male of his Body lawfully begotten, and the Dignity of Viscountess St. Vincent, of Meaford, in the said County.of Stafford, to the Right Honourable Mary Countess of Northesk (age 32), Daughter of the said Mary Ricketts, and Widow of William Henry Ricketts aforesaid, and the Dignity of Viscount St. Vincent to the Heirs Male of her Body lawfully be gotten.

On 13th March 1823 John Jervis 1st Earl St Vincent (age 88) died. Earl of St Vincent and Baron Jervis of Medsford in Staffordshire extinct. His nephew Edward (age 55) succeeded 2nd Viscount St Vincent of Meaford in Staffordshire.

In 1859 Edward Jervis Ricketts aka Jervis 2nd Viscount St Vincent (age 91) died. His grandson Carnegie (age 33) succeeded 3rd Viscount St Vincent of Meaford in Staffordshire.

On 19th July 1879 Carnegie Jervis 3rd Viscount St Vincent (age 53) died. His son John (age 29) succeeded 4th Viscount St Vincent of Meaford in Staffordshire.

On 23rd January 1885 John Jervis 4th Viscount St Vincent (age 34) died. His brother Carnegie (age 29) succeeded 5th Viscount St Vincent of Meaford in Staffordshire.

On 22nd September 1908 Carnegie Jervis 5th Viscount St Vincent (age 53) died. His brother Ronald (age 48) succeeded 6th Viscount St Vincent of Meaford in Staffordshire.

On 16th February 1940 Ronald Jervis 6th Viscount St Vincent (age 80) died. His son Ronald (age 34) succeeded 7th Viscount St Vincent of Meaford in Staffordshire.

On 4th September 2006 Ronald Jervis 7th Viscount St Vincent died. His son Edward (age 55) succeeded 8th Viscount St Vincent of Meaford in Staffordshire.
