The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 29th October 1854 Thomas Lister 4th Baron Ribblesdale was born to Thomas Lister 3rd Baron Ribblesdale (age 26) at Fontainebleau.

On 12th February 1712 Maria Adelaide Savoy (age 26) died of measles at Versailles.

On 18th February 1712 Louis Bourbon Duke Burgundy (age 29) died of measles contracted when nursing his wife Maria Adelaide Savoy who had died six days previously.

On 8th March 1712, their eldest son, heir to the throne, Louis Bourbon Duke Brittany (age 5) died of measles.

The heir to the French throne their only remaining son Louis (age 1), aged two, great-grandson of the reigning monarch Louis "Sun King" XIV King France (age 73) succeeded his great-grandfather three years later in 1715.

On 23rd February 1745 Dauphin Louis Bourbon (age 15) and Infanta Maria Teresa Rafaela of Spain (age 18) were married at the Palace of Versailles. She the daughter of Philippe V King Spain (age 61) and Elisabeth Farnese Queen Consort Spain (age 52). He the son of Louis XV King France (age 35) and Marie Leszczyńska Queen Consort France (age 41). They were first cousin once removed. He a great x 3 grandson of King Charles I of England, Scotland and Ireland.

On 16th April 1780 or 11th July 1780 Antoine 8th Duke Gramont (age 24) and Aglae de Polignac "Guichette" Duchess Gramont (age 11) were married at the Palace of Versailles. She the daughter of Jules 1st Duke of Polignac (age 33) and Yolande Martine Gabrielle Polastron Duchess Gramont (age 30). He the son of Antoine 7th Duke Gramont (age 58).
