Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans

Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.

Lambert Guideschi II Count Nantes and Tetrada Carolingian Countess Nantes were married. He the son of Lambert Guideschi Duke Spoleto and Itta Unknown Duchess Spoleto.

In 818 [his father] Lambert Guideschi Duke Spoleto was created I Count Nantes.

In 834 [his father] Lambert Guideschi Duke Spoleto was created Duke Spoleto.

In 836 [his father] Lambert Guideschi Duke Spoleto died.

841 Battle of Fontenoy

On 25th June 841 Lambert Guideschi II Count Nantes fought at the Battle of Fontenoy.

Battle of Blain aka Messac

On 24th May 843 the Battle of Blain aka Messac was a battle between Brittany and the County of Nantes over control of Nantes which, at that time, was controlled by the Frankish Kingdom. The Franks were defeated.

Lambert Guideschi II Count Nantes commanded the Breton army.

Renaud Count of Herbauges, Poitiers and Nantes, who commanded the army of Nantes, was killed the following day.

Battle of Ballon

On 22nd November 845 Lambert Guideschi II Count Nantes fought at Redon during the Battle of Ballon.

Battle of Jengland

On 22nd August 851 Lambert Guideschi II Count Nantes fought at Grand Fougeray during the Battle of Jengland.

In 852 Lambert Guideschi II Count Nantes was killed by Gauzbert Rorgonide I Count Maine.
