Biography of John Mowbray 2nd Duke of Norfolk 1392-1432

She the daughter of [his grandfather] Richard Fitzalan 9th Earl of Surrey 4th or 11th Earl of Arundel (age 36) and [his grandmother] Elizabeth Bohun Countess Arundel and Surrey (age 32). He the son of William Montagu 2nd Earl Salisbury (age 54) and Elizabeth Mohun Countess of Salisbury. They were third cousin once removed. She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

On 20th February 1383 [his father] Thomas Mowbray 1st Duke of Norfolk (age 14) and Elizabeth Strange Countess Nottingham (age 21) were married. She by marriage Countess Nottingham. On 8th July 1425 [his mother] Elizabeth Fitzalan Duchess Norfolk (age 59) died at Wighill. She was buried at St Michael's Church, Hoveringham. Her son John Mowbray 2nd Duke of Norfolk (age 33) inherited her estates including Framlingham Castle, Suffolk [Map].

On 14th July 1425 John Mowbray 2nd Duke of Norfolk (age 33) paid homage to King Henry VI of England and II of France (age 3) for his Dukedom.

In 1429 Joan Fauconberg Countess Kent (age 22) abeyance terminated 6th Baroness Fauconberg. [his brother-in-law] William Neville 1st Earl Kent (age 24) by marriage Baron Fauconberg. Not clear whether the abeyance was terminated as a consequence of an unknown sister of Joan Fauconberg Countess Kent dying and Joan being the only remaining descendant.

In October 1429 Richard Plantagenet 3rd Duke of York (age 18) and [his sister-in-law] Cecily "Rose of Raby" Neville Duchess York (age 14) were married. She by marriage Duchess York. She was the youngest sister of Richard's brother-in-arms [his brother-in-law] Richard Neville Earl Salisbury (age 29). She the daughter of [his father-in-law] Ralph Neville 1st Earl of Westmoreland and [his mother-in-law] Joan Beaufort Countess of Westmoreland (age 50). He the son of Richard of Conisbrough 1st Earl Cambridge and Anne Mortimer. They were second cousins. He a great grandson of King Edward III of England. On 19th October 1432 John Mowbray 2nd Duke of Norfolk (age 40) died at Epworth. His son [his son] John (age 17) succeeded 3rd Duke Norfolk, 6th Earl Norfolk, 4th Earl Nottingham, 9th Baron Mowbray, 10th Baron Segrave and Earl Marshal.

Before 1437 Thomas Strangeways (age 41) and [his former wife] Katherine Neville Duchess Norfolk (age 36) were married. She the daughter of [his former father-in-law] Ralph Neville 1st Earl of Westmoreland and [his former mother-in-law] Joan Beaufort Countess of Westmoreland (age 57).

In October 1441 John Beaumont 1st Viscount Beaumont (age 32) and [his former wife] Katherine Neville Duchess Norfolk (age 41) were married. She by marriage Viscountess Beaumont. She the daughter of [his former father-in-law] Ralph Neville 1st Earl of Westmoreland and [his former mother-in-law] Joan Beaufort Countess of Westmoreland. They were fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry III of England. She a great granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

After 1483 [his former wife] Katherine Neville Duchess Norfolk (deceased) died.
