William of Worcester's Chronicle of England
William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

On 25th May 1765 [his father] Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 24] and [his mother] Harriet Stewart were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Alexander Stewart 6th Earl Galloway [aged 71] and [his grandmother] Catherine Cochrane Countess Galloway [aged 56]. He the son of James Hamilton 5th Duke Hamilton 2nd Duke Brandon and Anne Spencer Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 55]. They were half fifth cousin once removed.
On 3rd October 1767 Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon was born to [his father] Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 27] and [his mother] Harriet Stewart at St James' Square. He was educated at Harrow School.
In 1788 [his mother] Harriet Stewart died.
On 2nd August 1799 Douglas Hamilton 8th Duke Hamilton 5th Duke Brandon [aged 43] died at Hamilton Palace, Hamilton. His uncle [his father] Archibald [aged 59] succeeded 9th Duke Hamilton, 6th Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 5th Marquess Douglas, 6th Baron Dutton of Cheshire. His half brother George [aged 30] succeeded 3rd Baron Hamilton of Hameldon in Leicestershire.
On 24th June 1800 [his brother-in-law] Edward Seymour 11th Duke of Somerset [aged 25] and [his sister] Charlotte Hamilton Duchess Somerset [aged 28] were married. She by marriage Duchess Somerset. She the daughter of [his father] Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 59] and [his mother] Harriet Stewart. He the son of Webb Seymour 10th Duke of Somerset and Anne Maria Bonnell Duchess Somerset.
In 1803 [his brother-in-law] George Murray 5th Earl Dunmore [aged 40] and [his sister] Susan Hamilton Countess Dunmore [aged 29] were married. She the daughter of [his father] Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 62] and [his mother] Harriet Stewart. He the son of John Murray 4th Earl Dunmore [aged 73] and [his aunt] Charlotte Stewart Countess Dunmore [aged 73]. They were first cousins.
On 25th February 1809 John Murray 4th Earl Dunmore [aged 79] died. His son [his brother-in-law] George [aged 46] succeeded 5th Earl Dunmore. [his sister] Susan Hamilton Countess Dunmore [aged 35] by marriage Countess Dunmore.
On 26th April 1810 Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon [aged 42] and Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 23] were married. He the son of Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 69] and Harriet Stewart.
On 19th February 1811 [his son] William Alexander Archibald Hamilton 11th Duke Hamilton 8th Duke Brandon was born to Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon [aged 43] and [his wife] Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 24].
On 9th June 1814 [his daughter] Susan Harriet Catherine Hamilton Duchess Newcastle under Lyne was born to Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon [aged 46] and [his wife] Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 28]. She married 27th November 1832 Henry Pelham-Clinton 5th Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne, son of Henry Pelham-Clinton 4th Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne and Georgiana Elizabeth Mundy Duchess Newcastle under Lyne, and had issue.
On 16th February 1819 [his father] Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 78] died. His son Alexander [aged 51] succeeded 10th Duke Hamilton, 7th Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 6th Marquess Douglas, 7th Baron Dutton of Cheshire. [his wife] Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 32] by marriage Duchess Hamilton, Duchess Brandon of Suffolk.

On 7th June 1820 Charles Cavendish Fulke Greville [aged 26] noted in his diary "The Queen [aged 52] arrived in London yesterday at seven o'clock ... She travelled in an open landau, Alderman Wood [aged 52] sitting by her side and Lady Anne Hamilton [aged 54] and another woman opposite. Everybody was disgusted at the vulgarity of Wood in sitting in the place of honour, while the Duke of Hamilton's [aged 52] sister was sitting backwards in the carriage"

On 27th November 1832 [his son-in-law] Henry Pelham-Clinton 5th Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne [aged 21] and Susan Harriet Catherine Hamilton Duchess Newcastle under Lyne [aged 18] were married. She the daughter of Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon [aged 65] and Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 46]. He the son of Henry Pelham-Clinton 4th Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne [aged 47] and Georgiana Elizabeth Mundy Duchess Newcastle under Lyne.
In 1836 Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon [aged 68] was appointed 677th Knight of the Garter by King William IV of the United Kingdom [aged 70].
In 1846 [his sister] Susan Hamilton Countess Dunmore [aged 72] died.
On 18th August 1852 Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon [aged 84] died. His son William [aged 41] succeeded 11th Duke Hamilton, 8th Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 7th Marquess Douglas, 8th Baron Dutton of Cheshire.
On 27th May 1859 [his former wife] Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 73] died.
