Published March 2025. The Deeds of King Henry V, or in Latin Henrici Quinti, Angliæ Regis, Gesta, is a first-hand account of the Agincourt Campaign, and subsequent events to his death in 1422. The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.

He the son of [his grandfather] Colin Campbell 6th Earl Argyll and [his grandmother] Agnes Keith Countess Moray and Mar. They were third cousins.

In Apr 1607 Archibald Campbell 1st Marquess Argyll was born to Archibald Campbell 7th Earl Argyll (age 32) and Agnes Douglas Countess Argyll (age 33).

On 03 May 1607 [his mother] Agnes Douglas Countess Argyll (age 33) died.

In 1609 [his father] Archibald Campbell 7th Earl Argyll (age 34) and [his step-mother] Anne Cornwallis Countess Argyll (age 19) were married. She by marriage Countess Argyll. He the son of [his grandfather] Colin Campbell 6th Earl Argyll and [his grandmother] Agnes Keith Countess Moray and Mar.

She the daughter of William Douglas 7th Earl Morton (age 44) and Anne Keith Countess Morton. He the son of Archibald Campbell 7th Earl Argyll (age 51) and Agnes Douglas Countess Argyll. They were first cousin once removed.

On 28 Apr 1627 [his brother-in-law] Robert Douglas 8th Earl Morton (age 11) and Elizabeth Villiers Countess Morton (age 18) were married. He the son of [his father-in-law] William Douglas 7th Earl Morton (age 45) and Anne Keith Countess Morton.

On 26 Feb 1629 [his son] Archibald Campbell 9th Earl Argyll was born to Archibald Campbell 1st Marquess Argyll (age 21) and [his wife] Margaret Douglas Marchioness Argyll (age 19) at Dalkeith. Coefficient of inbreeding 4.20%.

Around 1630 [his daughter] Neill Campbell was born to Archibald Campbell 1st Marquess Argyll (age 22) and [his wife] Margaret Douglas Marchioness Argyll (age 20). Coefficient of inbreeding 4.20%.

On 16 Dec 1634 George Hay 1st Earl Kinnoull (age 64) died. His son George (age 38) succeeded 2nd Earl Kinnoull. [his sister-in-law] Anne Douglas Countess Kinnoul by marriage Countess Kinnoull.

In 1638 [his father] Archibald Campbell 7th Earl Argyll (age 63) died. He was buried at Kilmun Church. His son Archibald (age 30) succeeded 8th Earl Argyll. [his wife] Margaret Douglas Marchioness Argyll (age 28) by marriage Countess Argyll.

In 1641 Archibald Campbell 1st Marquess Argyll (age 33) was created 1st Marquess Argyll. [his wife] Margaret Douglas Marchioness Argyll (age 31) by marriage Marchioness Argyll.

1645 Battle of Inverlochy

On 02 Feb 1645 a Royalist force of Highlanders and Confederate Irish troops under the overall command of James Graham 1st Marquess Montrose (age 32) defeated the forces of Archibald Campbell 1st Marquess Argyll (age 37) who had been camped at Inverlochy Castle.

On 07 Aug 1648 [his father-in-law] William Douglas 7th Earl Morton (age 66) died. His son [his brother-in-law] Robert (age 32) succeeded 8th Earl Morton. Elizabeth Villiers Countess Morton (age 39) by marriage Countess Morton.

On 12 Nov 1649 [his brother-in-law] Robert Douglas 8th Earl Morton (age 33) died at Kirkwall. His son William succeeded 9th Earl Morton.

On 13 May 1650 [his son] Archibald Campbell 9th Earl Argyll (age 21) and [his daughter-in-law] Mary Stewart Countess Argyll (age 22) were married at Canongate Kirk, Canongate. She the daughter of James Stewart 4th Earl of Moray (age 39) and Margaret Home Countess Moray. He the son of Archibald Campbell 1st Marquess Argyll (age 43) and [his wife] Margaret Douglas Marchioness Argyll (age 40). They were half second cousin once removed. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

John Evelyn's Diary. 28 May 1656. Came to visit me the old Marquis of Argyle (age 49) (since executed), Lord Lothian, and some other Scotch noblemen, all strangers to me. Note, the Marquis took the turtle-doves in the aviary for owls.

Before 1657 James Graham 2nd Marquess Montrose (age 25) and [his sister-in-law] Isabel Douglas Marchioness Montrose (age 26) were married. She by marriage Marchioness Montrose. She the daughter of [his father-in-law] William Douglas 7th Earl Morton and Anne Keith Countess Morton. He the son of James Graham 1st Marquess Montrose.

John Evelyn's Diary. 10 Jan 1657. Came Dr. Joyliffe (age 36), that famous physician and anatomist, first detector of the lymphatic veins; also the old Marquis of Argyle (age 49), and another Scotch Earl.

In Jan 1661 [his son-in-law] Robert Kerr 1st Marquess Lothian (age 24) and [his daughter] Jean Campbell were married. She the daughter of Archibald Campbell 1st Marquess Argyll (age 53) and [his wife] Margaret Douglas Marchioness Argyll (age 51). He the son of William Kerr 1st Earl Lothian (age 56). He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

Diary of John Nicoll. 13 Feb 1661. Upone Weddinfday the 13 day of Februar 1661, the Marques of Ergyll (age 53), being prilfoner in the Caftell of Edinburgh, was callit for to anfuer to findry poyntis of horrid treafone, and, in his douncuming to the Parliament, wes gairdit with a number of mulketeiris; and thair, eftir fum fmall debaitt quhidder he fould be fuffered to fpeik befoir the reiding of the indictment; it wes caryed in the negative aganes him. So the accufation wes red, quhich wes of fourtene articles of treafone, and heich and liynous treafone, and being demandit Giltie or No Giltie; befoir he anfuered he had a long harangue, much relating to purge him felff by folempne oathes and proteftationes that he was frie of his Majefteis blood, that of the Marques of Huntleis and Montrois, as alfo of the Duke of Hammiltoun. He pretendit want of tyme to confult the proces with his advocattis, and fo the Parliament hath given him the 26 of this moneth of Februar, to prepare his defencis aganelt that tyme. Then the Lord Proveft of Edinburgh, wes ordored to returne him priffoner to the Caftell, quhilk wes reallie performit by a ftrong gaird of mulketeiris. Yit eftir this day, viz. the 26 day of Februar, upone the Marques fuplication to the Counfell, the Eftates of Parliament wer pleafit to grante a farder day to advyfe and confult his proces with his advocattis, viz. to the 5 of Marche thaireftir.

On 27 May 1661 Archibald Campbell 1st Marquess Argyll (age 54) was beheaded for his perceived treason on the restoration of Charles II at Edinburgh [Map]. He was buried at Kilmun Church.

John Evelyn's Diary. 17 Apr 1662. The young [his son] Marquis of Argyle (age 33) [Note. Evelyn makes a mistake here insofar as Archibald Campbell 9th Earl Argyll was only restored to the Earldom.], whose turbulent father was executed in Scotland, came to see my garden. He seemed a man of parts.

In 1678 [his former wife] Margaret Douglas Marchioness Argyll (age 68) died.
