On 21st February 1759 [her father] John Murray 4th Earl Dunmore (age 29) and [her mother] Charlotte Stewart Countess Dunmore (age 29) were married. She the daughter of [her grandfather] Alexander Stewart 6th Earl Galloway (age 65) and [her grandmother] Catherine Cochrane Countess Galloway (age 50). He the son of [her grandfather] William Murray 3rd Earl Dunmore.

On 27th January 1768 Augusta Murray Duchess Sussex was born to John Murray 4th Earl Dunmore (age 38) and Charlotte Stewart Countess Dunmore (age 38).

On 4th April 1793 Prince Augustus Frederick Hanover 1st Duke Sussex (age 20) and Augusta Murray Duchess Sussex (age 25) were married at Rome, Italy [Map] in secret contrary to the Royal Marriages Act which required him to seek permission before marrying. She the daughter of John Murray 4th Earl Dunmore (age 63) and Charlotte Stewart Countess Dunmore (age 63). He the son of King George III of Great Britain and Ireland (age 54) and Charlotte Mecklenburg Strelitz Queen Consort England (age 48).

On 5th December 1793 [her husband] Prince Augustus Frederick Hanover 1st Duke Sussex (age 20) and Augusta Murray Duchess Sussex (age 25) were married at St George's Church, Hanover Square. Their second marriage; again contrary to the Royal Marriages Act.

In 1794 [her daughter] Augustus Frederick d'Este Hanover was born to [her husband] Prince Augustus Frederick Hanover 1st Duke Sussex (age 20) and Augusta Murray Duchess Sussex (age 25). She a granddaughter of King George III of Great Britain and Ireland.

In August 1794 Prince Augustus Frederick Hanover 1st Duke Sussex (age 21) and Augusta Murray Duchess Sussex (age 26) marriage annulled by the Court of Arches which deemed the marriage contrary to the Royal Marriages Act. The couple continued to live together until 1801 when they separated. She received a grant of £4000 each year and custody of their children.

In 1795 George Bussy Villiers 4th Earl Jersey (age 59) was appointed Master of the Horse to the Prince of Wales, the future [her former brother-in-law] King George IV of Great Britain and Ireland (age 32).

On 8th April 1795 [her former brother-in-law] King George IV of Great Britain and Ireland (age 32) and Caroline of Brunswick Queen Consort England (age 26) were married at Chapel Royal, St James's Palace. He the son of [her former father-in-law] King George III of Great Britain and Ireland (age 56) and [her former mother-in-law] Charlotte Mecklenburg Strelitz Queen Consort England (age 50). They were first cousins. She a great granddaughter of King George II of Great Britain and Ireland.

In 1799 [her former brother-in-law] Ernest Augustus King Hanover (age 27) was created 1st Duke Cumberland and Teviotdale.

The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." In 1801 [her daughter] Augusta Emma d'Este Hanover was born to [her former husband] Prince Augustus Frederick Hanover 1st Duke Sussex (age 27) and Augusta Murray Duchess Sussex (age 32). She a granddaughter of King George III of Great Britain and Ireland.

In 1801 [her former brother-in-law] Adolphus Hanover 1st Duke Cambridge (age 26) was created 1st Duke Cambridge.

On 24th November 1801 [her former husband] Prince Augustus Frederick Hanover 1st Duke Sussex (age 28) was created 1st Duke Sussex. Augusta Murray Duchess Sussex (age 33) by marriage Duchess Sussex.

In 1804 John Lethbridge 1st Baronet (age 58) was created 1st Baronet Lethbridge of Westaway House in Devon and Winkley Court in Somerset apparently for having paid the gambling debts of the Prince Regent, the future [her former brother-in-law] King George IV of Great Britain and Ireland (age 41).

On 25th February 1809 [her father] John Murray 4th Earl Dunmore (age 79) died. His son [her brother] George (age 46) succeeded 5th Earl Dunmore. Susan Hamilton Countess Dunmore (age 35) by marriage Countess Dunmore.

In 1815 [her former brother-in-law] Ernest Augustus King Hanover (age 43) and Frederica Mecklenburg Strelitz Queen Consort Hanover (age 36) were married. She by marriage Duchess Cumberland and Teviotdale. He the son of [her former father-in-law] King George III of Great Britain and Ireland (age 76) and [her former mother-in-law] Charlotte Mecklenburg Strelitz Queen Consort England (age 70). They were first cousins.

On 22nd July 1816 William Frederick Hanover 2nd Duke Gloucester and Edinburgh (age 40) and [her former sister-in-law] Mary Hanover Duchess Gloucester and Edinburgh (age 40) were married at St James's Palace [Map]. She by marriage Duchess Gloucester and Edinburgh. She the daughter of [her former father-in-law] King George III of Great Britain and Ireland (age 78) and [her former mother-in-law] Charlotte Mecklenburg Strelitz Queen Consort England (age 72). He the son of William Henry Hanover 1st Duke Gloucester and Edinburgh and Maria Walpole Duchess Gloucester and Edinburgh. They were first cousins. He a great grandson of King George II of Great Britain and Ireland.

In 1818 [her mother] Charlotte Stewart Countess Dunmore (age 88) died.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 1st June 1818 [her former brother-in-law] Adolphus Hanover 1st Duke Cambridge (age 44) and Princess Augusta Hesse-Kassel Duchess Cambridge (age 20) were married. She by marriage Duchess Cambridge. The difference in their ages was 23 years. He the son of [her former father-in-law] King George III of Great Britain and Ireland (age 79) and [her former mother-in-law] Charlotte Mecklenburg Strelitz Queen Consort England (age 74). They were second cousins. She a great granddaughter of King George II of Great Britain and Ireland.

On 11th July 1818 [her former brother-in-law] King William IV of the United Kingdom (age 52) and Queen Adelaide of England (age 25) were married at Kew, Surrey. She by marriage Duchess Clarence and St Andrews. The difference in their ages was 26 years. He the son of [her former father-in-law] King George III of Great Britain and Ireland (age 80).

On 23rd January 1820 [her former brother-in-law] Edward Augustus Hanover 1st Duke Kent and Strathearn (age 52) died at Woolbrook Cottage Sidmouth, Devon.

Death of King George III

On 29th January 1820 [her former father-in-law] King George III of Great Britain and Ireland (age 81) died at Windsor Castle [Map]. His reign the third longest after Victoria and Elizabeth II. His son [her former brother-in-law] George (age 57) succeeded IV King Great Britain and Ireland. Caroline of Brunswick Queen Consort England (age 51) by marriage Queen Consort England.

Coronation of King George IV

On 19th July 1821 [her former brother-in-law] King George IV of Great Britain and Ireland (age 58) was crowned IV King Great Britain and Ireland.

King George IV of Great Britain and Ireland barred Caroline of Brunswick Queen Consort England (age 53) from attending the Coronation. She attempted to attend but was turned away at the doors of Westminster Abbey. Refused entry at both the doors to the East Cloister and the doors to the West Cloister, Caroline attempted to enter via Westminster Hall, where many guests were gathered before the service began. A witness described how the Queen stood at the door fuming as bayonets were held under her chin until the deputy lord chamberlain had the doors slammed in her face. Henry Brougham recorded his distaste.1. She died three weeks later.

William Cavendish 6th Duke Devonshire (age 31) carried the Orb at Westminster Abbey [Map].

Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham (age 53) attended as Deputy Earl Marshal as a result of Henry Howard-Molyneux-Howard (age 54).

On 5th March 1830 Augusta Murray Duchess Sussex (age 62) died at Ramsgate, Kent.

On 2nd May 1831 [her former husband] Prince Augustus Frederick Hanover 1st Duke Sussex (age 58) and Cecilia Gore aka Underwood Duchess of Inverness (age 46) were married contrary to the Royal Marriages Act. On the same day she assumed the surname Underwood by Royal Licence. She did not assume the title Duchess of Sussex. She the daughter of Arthur Saunders Gore 2nd Earl Arran and Elizabeth Underwood Countess of Arran. He the son of [her former father-in-law] King George III of Great Britain and Ireland and [her former mother-in-law] Charlotte Mecklenburg Strelitz Queen Consort England.

On 21st April 1843 [her former husband] Prince Augustus Frederick Hanover 1st Duke Sussex (age 70) died at Kensington Palace. He was buried at Kensal Green Cemetery [Map]. Duke Sussex extinct.
