On or before 23rd August 1652 Colin Lindsay 3rd Earl Balcarres was born to [his father] Andrew Lindsay 1st Earl Balcarres [aged 34].

On 30th August 1659 [his father] Andrew Lindsay 1st Earl Balcarres [aged 41] died. His son [his brother] Charles [aged 9] succeeded 2nd Earl Balcarres.

In 1662 Charles Lindsay 2nd Earl Balcarres [aged 12] died. His brother Colin [aged 9] succeeded 3rd Earl Balcarres.

Around 1670 Colin Lindsay 3rd Earl Balcarres [aged 17] and Mauritiade Nassau Countess Balcarres were married. She by marriage Countess Balcarres. He the son of Andrew Lindsay 1st Earl Balcarres.

Around 1671 [his wife] Mauritiade Nassau Countess Balcarres died.

In 1673 Colin Lindsay 3rd Earl Balcarres [aged 20] and Jean Carnegie Countess Balcarres were married by which he incurred the king's displeasure and was forbidden to appear at court. She by marriage Countess Balcarres. She the daughter of David Carnegie 2nd Earl Northesk and Jean Maule. He the son of Andrew Lindsay 1st Earl Balcarres.

In 1679 [his wife] Jean Carnegie Countess Balcarres died.

After 1679 Colin Lindsay 3rd Earl Balcarres [aged 26] and Jean Ker Countess Balcarres were married. She by marriage Countess Balcarres. She the daughter of William Ker 2nd Earl Roxburghe and Jane Ker Countess Roxburgh. He the son of Andrew Lindsay 1st Earl Balcarres. They were second cousin once removed.

On 14th November 1691 [his son] James Lindsay 5th Earl Balcarres was born to Colin Lindsay 3rd Earl Balcarres [aged 39] and [his future wife] Margaret Campbell Countess Balcarres. He married 24th October 1749 Anne Dalrymple Countess Balcarres and had issue.

She the daughter of Colin Lindsay 3rd Earl Balcarres [aged 45]. He the son of William Fleming 5th Earl Wigtown and Henrietta Seton Countess Wigtown [aged 45]. They were second cousin once removed.

Before 1720 Colin Lindsay 3rd Earl Balcarres [aged 67] and Margaret Campbell Countess Balcarres were married. She by marriage Countess Balcarres. She the daughter of James Campbell 2nd Earl Loudon and Margaret Montgomerie. He the son of Andrew Lindsay 1st Earl Balcarres. They were third cousin once removed.

In 1722 Colin Lindsay 3rd Earl Balcarres [aged 69] died. His son Alexander succeeded 4th Earl Balcarres.
