The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In or before 1531 [his father] George Seton 6th Lord Seton and [his mother] Elizabeth Hay Lady Seton were married. She by marriage Lord Seton. They were fourth cousin once removed. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward III of England.

In 1531 George Seton 7th Lord Seton was born to George Seton 6th Lord Seton and Elizabeth Hay Lady Seton.

In 1549 [his father] George Seton 6th Lord Seton died. His son George (age 18) succeeded 7th Lord Seton. Isobel Hamilton Lady Seton by marriage Lord Seton.

In 1553 [his son] Robert Seton 1st Earl Winton was born to George Seton 7th Lord Seton (age 22) and Isobel Hamilton Lady Seton.

In 1555 [his son] Alexander Seton 1st Earl Dunfermline was born to George Seton 7th Lord Seton (age 24) and Isobel Hamilton Lady Seton.

Around 1557 [his daughter] Margaret Seton Lady Paisley was born to George Seton 7th Lord Seton (age 26) and Isobel Hamilton Lady Seton.

In 1562 [his son] George Seton died.

Battle of Langside

On 13th May 1568 the army of Mary Queen of Scots (age 25) commanded by Archibald Campbell 5th Earl Argyll (age 34) was defeated by the army of the Regent her illegitimate half-brother James Stewart 1st Earl of Moray Regent (age 37).

John Campbell was killed.

William "Younger" Douglas 7th Lord Drumlanrig and [his son] Robert Seton 1st Earl Winton (age 15) fought.

[his future son-in-law] Claud Hamilton 1st Lord Paisley (age 21) and George Seton 7th Lord Seton (age 37) fought for the Queen.

John Graham 6th Earl Menteith fought for the Earl of Moray.

After 16th June 1574 [his son-in-law] Claud Hamilton 1st Lord Paisley (age 28) and [his daughter] Margaret Seton Lady Paisley (age 17) were married. He the son of James Hamilton 2nd Earl Arran (age 58) and Margaret Douglas Duchess Châtellerault. They were third cousin once removed.

She the daughter of George Dunbar 10th Earl March and Christina Wyntoun Countess Dunbar. They were first cousin once removed.

Margaret Seton Lady Paisley: Around 1557 she was born to George Seton 7th Lord Seton and Isobel Hamilton Lady Seton. After 16th June 1574 Claud Hamilton 1st Lord Paisley and she were married. He the son of James Hamilton 2nd Earl Arran and Margaret Douglas Duchess Châtellerault. They were third cousin once removed. In 1587 Claud Hamilton 1st Lord Paisley was created 1st Lord Paisley. She by marriage Lord Paisley. In 1616 Margaret Seton Lady Paisley died.

In 1582 [his son] Robert Seton 1st Earl Winton (age 29) and [his daughter-in-law] Margaret Montgomerie Countess Winton were married. She the daughter of Hugh Montgomerie 3rd Earl Eglinton (age 51) and Agnes Drummond Countess Eglinton (age 59). They were second cousins.

In 1586 George Seton 7th Lord Seton (age 55) died.
