On 12th May 1515 Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis was born to Gilbert Kennedy 2nd Earl Cassilis (age 20).
On 27th August 1527 [his father] Gilbert Kennedy 2nd Earl Cassilis (age 32) died. His son Gilbert (age 12) succeeded 3rd Earl Cassilis.
In 1540 Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 24) and Margaret Kennedy Countess Cassilis (age 26) were married. She by marriage Countess Cassilis. He the son of Gilbert Kennedy 2nd Earl Cassilis. They were second cousins.
Around 1541 [his son] Gilbert Kennedy 4th Earl Cassilis was born to Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 25) and [his wife] Margaret Kennedy Countess Cassilis (age 27). Coefficient of inbreeding 1.95%.
On 24th July 1542 [his daughter] Isobel Kennedy was born to Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 27) and [his wife] Margaret Kennedy Countess Cassilis (age 28). Coefficient of inbreeding 1.95%.
On 25th November 1542 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 47) commanded the English forces at Battle of Solway Moss at Solway Moss, Cumberland [Map]. John Thynne (age 27) fought. Of the Scottish army Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 48), Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 27) and Laurence Oliphant 3rd Lord Oliphant fought.
William Graham 3rd Earl Menteith (age 42) was captured. He was ransomed in 1453.
William Cunningham 4th Earl Glencairn (age 49) was captured and committed to the custody of Thomas Howard 3rd Duke of Norfolk (age 69). He was released on payment of a ransom of a thousand pounds and subscribing by his own hand to support Henry VIII's (age 51) project of a marriage between the young King Edward VI of England and Ireland (age 5) and the Mary Queen of Scots.
Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming was captured.
Around 1545 [his son] Thomas Kennedy of Culzean was born to Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 29) and [his wife] Margaret Kennedy Countess Cassilis (age 31). Coefficient of inbreeding 1.95%.
On 10th September 1547 an English army commanded by Edward Seymour 1st Duke of Somerset (age 47) defeated a Scottish army commanded by James Hamilton 2nd Earl Arran (age 31) and Archibald Douglas 6th Earl Angus (age 58) at the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh at Musselburgh.
The English army included John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland (age 43), Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury (age 47), Miles Partridge and Thomas Wentworth 2nd Baron Wentworth (age 22). John Thynne (age 32) and Edmund Brydges 2nd Baron Chandos (age 25) were knighted.
William Cecil 1st Baron Burghley (age 26) accompanied Edward Seymour 1st Duke of Somerset.
Edward Shelley of Worminghurst Park (age 44) was killed.
John Forbes 6th Lord Forbes (age 82), Christopher Coningsby (age 31) and Edward Clere were killed.
John Thynne was knighted after the battle.
The Scottish army included John Gordon 11th Earl Sutherland (age 22) who commanded the Rearguard and Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 32). John Stewart, Robert Douglas (age 41), John Livingston, Thomas Hamilton of Priestfield and Hugh Montgomerie were killed. John Hay 4th Lord Hay was captured but soon released.
Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 53) was killed. His son James (age 13) succeeded 4th Lord Fleming. Barbara Hamilton Lady Fleming by marriage Lord Fleming.
Robert Graham Master of Montrose was killed.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.
Wriothesley's Chronicle [1508-1562]. This yeare also the Lord Protectors Grace (age 47) went into Scotlande with an armie riall in the beginning of September, and the 20th daie of September [Note. Mistake for 10th September 1547] he had battell with the Scottes within fower miles of Edenboroughe, where, by the power of God, he had the victorie, and there was slaine of the Scottes fiftene thousande, and tow thousand taken prisoners. The Erle of Huntley (age 33), Chauncelor of the Scottes, was one, the Earl of Cassells slaine [Note. Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 32) was captured.], and the Lord Fleeming (age 53). And of Englishemen their were not slaine above an hundred persons in all. The Scottes were numbred above fortie thousande, and the Englishmen not above sixteene thousande; and also they tooke there shipps and all their ordinance, with all the spoile of the fielde, and certeyne castells were yelded to him.
On 15th November 1558 Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 43) died at Dieppe, Seine Maritime, Haute Normandie. His son [his son] Gilbert (age 17) succeeded 4th Earl Cassilis.
Between 28th November 1580 and 31st December 1580 [his former wife] Margaret Kennedy Countess Cassilis (age 66) died.
[his daughter] Katherine Kennedy was born to Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis and Margaret Kennedy Countess Cassilis. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.95%.
[his daughter] Jean Kennedy Countess Orkney was born to Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis and Margaret Kennedy Countess Cassilis. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.95%.
[his father] Gilbert Kennedy 2nd Earl Cassilis and Isabel Campbell Countess Cassilis were married. She the daughter of Archibald Campbell 2nd Earl Argyll and Elizabeth Stewart Countess Argyll. He the son of [his grandfather] David Kennedy 1st Earl Cassilis. They were second cousins.
