On 6th June 1630 [his father] John Murray 1st Earl Atholl and [his mother] Jean Campbell Countess Atholl were married. She by marriage Countess Atholl. He the son of [his grandfather] William Murray 2nd Earl Tullibardine and [his grandmother] Dorothea Stewart Countess Tullibardine. They were second cousin once removed.
On 2nd May 1631 John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl was born to John Murray 1st Earl Atholl and Jean Campbell Countess Atholl. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.83%.
In June 1642 [his father] John Murray 1st Earl Atholl died. His son John (age 11) succeeded 2nd Earl Atholl.
On 5th May 1659 John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl (age 28) and Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl (age 26) were married. She the daughter of James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby and Charlotte Thouars Countess Derby (age 59). He the son of John Murray 1st Earl Atholl and Jean Campbell Countess Atholl.
On 24th February 1660 [his son] John Murray 1st Duke Atholl was born to John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl (age 28) and [his wife] Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl (age 27) at Knowsley Hall, Lancashire.
In 1661 [his son] Charles Murray 1st Earl Dunmore was born to John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl (age 29).
In 1662 William Wentworth 2nd Earl Strafford (age 35) was restored 2nd Earl Strafford, 2nd Viscount Wentworth, 2nd Baron Wentworth, 3rd Baronet Wentworth of Wentworth Woodhouse in Yorkshire. [his sister-in-law] Henriette Stanley Countess Strafford (age 31) by marriage Countess Strafford.
In 1666 [his brother-in-law] Charles Stanley 8th Earl of Derby (age 37) was appointed Mayor of Liverpool.
In January 1670 James Murray 2nd Earl Tullibardine (age 52) died. His first cousin once removed John (age 38) succeeded 3rd Earl Tullibardine.
On 21st December 1672 [his brother-in-law] Charles Stanley 8th Earl of Derby (age 44) died. His son William (age 17) succeeded 9th Earl Derby, 3rd Baron Strange Knockin.
On 7th February 1676 John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl (age 44) was created 1st Marquess Atholl. [his wife] Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl (age 43) by marriage Marchioness Atholl.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.
On 27th December 1685 [his sister-in-law] Henriette Stanley Countess Strafford (age 55) died. She was buried at York Minster [Map].
On 22nd February 1702 [his wife] Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl (age 69) died.
On 6th May 1703 John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl (age 72) died. His son [his son] John (age 43) succeeded 2nd Marquess Atholl, 3rd Earl Atholl, 4th Earl Tullibardine. [his daughter-in-law] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl (age 41) by marriage Marchioness Atholl.
