Biography of Josslyn Victor Hay 22nd Earl of Erroll 1901-1941

Paternal Family Tree: Boyd

On 11th May 1901 Josslyn Victor Hay 22nd Earl of Erroll was born to Victor Hay 21st Earl of Erroll (age 24). He a great x 3 grandson of King William IV of the United Kingdom.

On 22nd September 1923 Josslyn Victor Hay 22nd Earl of Erroll (age 22) and Myra Idina Sackville Countess of Erroll (age 30) were married. She the daughter of Gilbert Sackville 8th Earl De La Warr and Muriel Agnes Brassey Countess De La Warr. He the son of Victor Hay 21st Earl of Erroll (age 46).

On 5th January 1926 [his daughter] Diana Hay 23rd Countess of Erroll was born to Josslyn Victor Hay 22nd Earl of Erroll (age 24) and [his wife] Myra Idina Sackville Countess of Erroll (age 32).

On 20th February 1928 [his father] Victor Hay 21st Earl of Erroll (age 51) died. His son Josslyn (age 26) succeeded 22nd Earl Erroll. [his wife] Myra Idina Sackville Countess of Erroll (age 34) by marriage Countess Erroll.

In 1930 Josslyn Victor Hay 22nd Earl of Erroll (age 28) and Myra Idina Sackville Countess of Erroll (age 36) were divorced.

On 24th January 1941 Josslyn Victor Hay 22nd Earl of Erroll (age 39) was murdered. He was found shot dead in his Buick at a crossroads on the Nairobi-Ngong road. He had dined that evening with Major John Delves Broughton 11th Baronet (age 57) and his wife, Erroll's alledged lover, Diana Caldwell Baroness Delamere (age 28). After dinner Erroll and Diana had gone dancing, Erroll's body was discovered half an hour after he had dropped her off. Broughton was subsequently tried, and aquitted, for the murder. His daughter [his daughter] Diana (age 15) succeeded 23rd Countess Erroll.

After 24th January 1941 Major John Delves Broughton 11th Baronet (age 57) was tried for the murder of Josslyn Victor Hay 22nd Earl of Erroll (deceased). He was acquited. The case became famous and was made into the film "White Mischief".

On 5th November 1955 [his former wife] Myra Idina Sackville Countess of Erroll (age 62) died.
