On 5th May 1534 Robert Boyd 5th Lord Boyd (age 17) was appointed Bailie and Chamberlain of Kilmarnock replacing his father [his father] Robert Boyd 4th Lord Boyd (age 49).
Before December 1542 [his father] Robert Boyd 4th Lord Boyd (age 57) and Elizabeth Napier were married.
On 6th September 1545 Robert Boyd 5th Lord Boyd (age 28) had a charter of the Lordship of Kilmarnock on his [his father] father's (age 60) resignation, with sasine following 22 September.
Around 1547 [his son] Thomas Boyd 6th Lord Boyd was born to Robert Boyd 5th Lord Boyd (age 30).
Before February 1549 [his father] Robert Boyd 4th Lord Boyd (age 64) and Marion Colquhon were married.
On 10th February 1549 Robert Boyd 5th Lord Boyd (age 32) granted a charterer to his step-mother Marion Colquhon.
On 14th October 1550 Robert Boyd 5th Lord Boyd (age 33) had a charter of the lands of Auchiutorlie.
The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

In 1557 or 1558 [his father] Robert Boyd 4th Lord Boyd (age 72) died.
22nd August 1582. The Raid of Ruthven was a plot by several nobles led by William Ruthven 1st Earl Gowrie (age 39) to kidnap the fifteen years old King James VI of Scotland (age 16), son of Mary Queen of Scots (age 39), (before he became King of England) to reform the government of Scotland.
The nobles included John Erskine 19th Earl of Mar (age 20), Thomas Lyon Master of Glamis, Robert Boyd 5th Lord Boyd (age 65), Patrick Lindsay 6th Lord Lindsay of the Byres (age 61), and David Erskine Commendator of Dryburgh.
They were opposed by Esme Stewart 1st Duke Lennox (age 40) and James Stewart 1st Earl Arran who controlled the government.
King James VI of Scotland was captured whilst hunting near Ruthven Castle.
The rebels were joined by Francis Stewart 5th Earl Bothwell (age 19) and James Cunningham 7th Earl Glencairn (age 30).
Esme Stewart 1st Duke Lennox was exiled; he died a year later in Paris. James Stewart 1st Earl Arran was imprisoned.
On 3rd January 1590 Robert Boyd 5th Lord Boyd (age 73) died.
