The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

William Douglas 3rd Lord Drumlanrig and Margaret Carlyle Lady Drumlanrig were married.

In 1440 William Douglas 3rd Lord Drumlanrig was born to William Douglas 2nd Lord Drumlanrig and Jane Maxwell Lady Drumlanrig.

In 1458 [his father] William Douglas 2nd Lord Drumlanrig died. His son William (age 18) succeeded 3rd Lord Drumlanrig. Margaret Carlyle Lady Drumlanrig by marriage Lord Drumlanrig.

1460 Siege of Roxburgh

On 3rd August 1460 King James II of Scotland (age 29) was killed accidentally whilst besieging Roxburgh Castle when a cannon exploded and he was hit by debris. He was buried at Holyrood Abbey, Holyrood. His son James (age 9) succeeded III King Scotland.

William Douglas 3rd Lord Drumlanrig (age 20) was present.

Siege of Alnwick

In July 1462 William Douglas 3rd Lord Drumlanrig (age 22) fought at Alnwick Castle, Northumberland [Map] during the Siege of Alnwick.

In 1464 William Douglas 3rd Lord Drumlanrig (age 24) died. His son [his son] William succeeded 4th Lord Drumlanrig.

[his father] William Douglas 2nd Lord Drumlanrig and [his mother] Jane Maxwell Lady Drumlanrig were married. She by marriage Lord Drumlanrig. They were fifth cousin once removed.
