William of Worcester's Chronicle of England

William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

On 11th July 1791 Nelson Rycroft 2nd Baronet [aged 30] and Charlotte Read Lady Rycroft [aged 20] were married. She by marriage Lady Rycroft of Calton in Yorkshire.

On 1st October 1827 Nelson Rycroft 2nd Baronet [aged 66] died. His son Richard [aged 33] succeeded 3rd Baronet Rycroft of Calton in Yorkshire.

On 18th May 1830 Richard Henry Rycroft 3rd Baronet [aged 36] and Charlotte Ann Josephine Tennant Lady Rycroft were married at St Nicholas' Church, Brighton. She by marriage Lady Rycroft of Calton in Yorkshire.

On 21st October 1864 Richard Henry Rycroft 3rd Baronet [aged 70] died. His son Nelson [aged 33] succeeded 4th Baronet Rycroft of Calton in Yorkshire. Juliana Ogilvy Lady Rycroft by marriage Lady Rycroft of Calton in Yorkshire.

On 11th February 1886 Richard Nelson Rycroft 5th Baronet [aged 26] and Dorothea Hester Bluett Wallop Lady Rycroft were married. She by marriage Lady Rycroft of Calton in Yorkshire. She the daughter of Isaac Newton Wallop 5th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 61] and Eveline Howard Herbert Countess Portsmouth [aged 51]. They were second cousins.

On 30th March 1894 Nelson Rycroft 4th Baronet [aged 63] died. His son Richard [aged 34] succeeded 5th Baronet Rycroft of Calton in Yorkshire.

On 25th October 1925 Richard Nelson Rycroft 5th Baronet [aged 65] died. His son Nelson [aged 38] succeeded 6th Baronet Rycroft of Calton in Yorkshire.

On 30th August 1958 Nelson Edward Oliver Rycroft 6th Baronet [aged 71] died. His son Richard [aged 40] succeeded 7th Baronet Rycroft of Calton in Yorkshire.

On 12th January 1999 Richard Newton Rycroft 7th Baronet [aged 80] died. His first cousin Richard [aged 52] succeeded 8th Baronet Rycroft of Calton in Yorkshire.
