The Queen [aged 66] has been pleased to direct Letters Patent to be passed under the Great Seal, granting the dignities of a Viscount and an Earl of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland unto the Right Honourable Sir Stafford Henry Northcote [aged 66], Bart, GCB, and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten, by the names, styles, and titles of Viscount Saint Gyres, of Newton Saint Gyres, in the county of Devon, and Earl of Iddesleigh, in the said county.

On 12th January 1887 Stafford Henry Northcote 1st Earl Iddesleigh [aged 68] died at 10 Downing Street, Westminster [Map]. His son Walter [aged 41] succeeded 2nd Earl of Iddesleigh in Devon, 2nd Viscount St Gyres of Newton St Gyres in Devon, 9th Baronet Northcote of Hayne in Devon

On 26th May 1927 Walter Stafford Northcote 2nd Earl Iddesleigh [aged 81] died. His nephew Henry [aged 26] succeeded 3rd Earl of Iddesleigh in Devon, 3rd Viscount St Gyres of Newton St Gyres in Devon, 10th Baronet Northcote of Hayne in Devon.

In 1970 Henry Stafford Northcote 3rd Earl Iddesleigh [aged 69] died. His son Stafford [aged 37] succeeded 4th Earl of Iddesleigh in Devon, 4th Viscount St Gyres of Newton St Gyres in Devon, 11th Baronet Northcote of Hayne in Devon
