The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." The funeral of the Earl of Leven and Melville [John Leslie-Melville 12th Earl of Leven 11th Earl of Melville (deceased)], who died last week in London from injuries received in an accident in the hunting field, took place in Scotland to-day. A memorial service was held at St. Mary's Church, Bryanston-square, W., this afternoon. Among the congregation were the Duke and Duchess of Somerset, the Marchioness of Salisbury and Lady Beatrice Ormsby-Gore (age 21), the Countess of Strathmore (age 50) and Lady Rose Bowes-Lyon (age 23), the Countess of Desart (age 59), Countess Waldegrave (age 63), the Countess of Dartrey (age 51), the Earl (age 61) and Countess (age 59) of Verulam, Viscount Althorp (age 21) and Lady [his brother] Adelaide Spencer (age 24), Viscount De Vesci (age 31), Captain and Lady Nina Balfour, the Dowager Lady Leaconfield, Viscount Maidstone, and Lord Reay.
On 26th February 1919 Albert Edward John Spencer 7th Earl Spencer (age 26) and Cynthia Elinor Beatrix Hamilton Countess Spencer (age 22) were married. She the daughter of James Albert Edward Hamilton 3rd Duke of Abercorn (age 49) and Rosalind Cecilia Caroline Bingham Duchess Abercorn (age 50). He the son of Charles Robert Spencer 6th Earl Spencer (age 61) and Margaret Baring Countess Spencer. They were third cousin once removed.
In 1920 [his daughter] Anne Spencer was born to Albert Edward John Spencer 7th Earl Spencer (age 27) and [his wife] Cynthia Elinor Beatrix Hamilton Countess Spencer (age 23).
On 26th September 1922 [his father] Charles Robert Spencer 6th Earl Spencer (age 64) died. His son Albert (age 30) succeeded 7th Earl Spencer, 7th Viscount Althorp, 7th Viscount Spencer, 7th Baron Spencer Althorp. The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

They were fifth cousins.
On 12th September 1953 [his father-in-law] James Albert Edward Hamilton 3rd Duke of Abercorn (age 83) died. His son [his brother-in-law] James (age 49) succeeded 4th Duke Abercorn, 4th Marquess Hamilton, 5th Marquess Abercorn, 13th Earl Abercorn. Kathleen Hamilton Duchess of Abercorn (age 48) by marriage Duchess Abercorn.
On 1st June 1954 [his son] John Spencer 8th Earl Spencer (age 30) and [his daughter-in-law] Frances Ruth Roche Countess Spencer (age 18) were married at Westminster Abbey [Map]. He the son of Albert Edward John Spencer 7th Earl Spencer (age 62) and [his wife] Cynthia Elinor Beatrix Hamilton Countess Spencer (age 57).
In 1972 [his wife] Cynthia Elinor Beatrix Hamilton Countess Spencer (age 75) died.
On 9th June 1975 Albert Edward John Spencer 7th Earl Spencer (age 83) died. His son [his son] John (age 51) succeeded 8th Earl Spencer, 8th Viscount Althorp, 8th Viscount Spencer, 8th Baron Spencer Althorp.
