Before 1282 [her future husband] John Hastings 13th Baron Abergavenny 1st Baron Hastings (age 19) and Isabel Valence Baroness Bergavenny Baroness Hastings were married. She by marriage Baroness Bergavenny Feudal Creation. She the daughter of William de Valence 1st Earl Pembroke and Joan Munchensi Countess Pembroke (age 51). He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry I "Beauclerc" England.

In Jan 1297 [her future husband] Ralph Monthermer 1st Earl of Gloucester and Hertford (age 27) and Joan of Acre Countess Gloucester and Hertford (age 24) were married in secret greatly offending her father King Edward I of England (age 57) who had been planning to marry her to Amadeus V "Great" Savoy (age 47) in March. Ralph Monthermer 1st Earl of Gloucester and Hertford was imprisoned at Bristol Castle, Gloucestershire [Map]; he was released in Aug 1297. Execution of the Despencers and their Faction

On 27 Oct 1326 [her father] Hugh "Elder" Despencer 1st Earl Winchester (age 65) was hanged at Bristol, Gloucestershire [Map]. Earl Winchester, Baron Despencer forfeit as a result of attainder.

In 1334 Isabel Despencer Baroness Hastings and Bergavenny died.

On 30 Dec 1389 John Hastings 3rd Earl Pembroke (age 17) was killed in a tournament during the Christmas Court at Woodstock Palace, Oxfordshire [Map]. He was struck in the groin by the lance of Sir John Des. Earl Pembroke and Baron Manny extinct.

His claim was contested by Reginald Grey 3rd Baron Grey Ruthyn (age 27) who was the son of [her former step-daughter] Elizabeth Hastings Baroness Grey Ruthyn daughter of [her former husband] John Hastings 13th Baron Abergavenny 1st Baron Hastings his case being that he was of the full blood whereas John Hastings 6th Baron Hastings was of the half-blood ie Reginald Grey 3rd Baron Grey Ruthyn, like John Hastings 3rd Earl Pembroke, was descended from John Hastings 13th Baron Abergavenny 1st Baron Hastings and Isabel Valence Baroness Bergavenny Baroness Hastings, whereas John Hastings 6th Baron Hastings was descended from John Hastings 13th Baron Abergavenny 1st Baron Hastings and Isabel Despencer Baroness Hastings and Bergavenny.

[her son] Margaret Hastings was born to John Hastings 13th Baron Abergavenny 1st Baron Hastings and Isabel Despencer Baroness Hastings and Bergavenny.
