Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

Maud Senlis was born to [her father] Simon Senlis 1st Earl of Northampton, Earl of Huntingdon and [her mother] Maud Queen Consort Scotland.
On 31st May 1076 [her grandfather] Waltheof Northumbria 1st Earl of Northampton 1st Earl Huntingdon was beheaded at St Gile's Hill, Winchester. His daughter [her mother] Maud (age 2) succeeded 2nd Countess Huntingdon, 2nd Countess of Northampton.
In or before 1086 William Brito de Albini and Maud Senlis were married. She the daughter of Simon Senlis 1st Earl of Northampton, Earl of Huntingdon and Maud Queen Consort Scotland (age 11).
Around 1090 [her father] Simon Senlis 1st Earl of Northampton, Earl of Huntingdon and [her mother] Maud Queen Consort Scotland (age 16) were married. She the daughter of [her grandfather] Waltheof Northumbria 1st Earl of Northampton 1st Earl Huntingdon and [her grandmother] Judith Flanders Countess Huntingdon.
On 9th September 1107 Roger Bigod died. Cecily Bigod (age 17) and her husband [her husband] William Brito de Albini inherited Belvoir Castle [Map].
In 1111 [her father] Simon Senlis 1st Earl of Northampton, Earl of Huntingdon died.
After 1111 King David I of Scotland (age 27) and [her mother] Maud Queen Consort Scotland (age 37) were married. He by marriage Earl Huntingdon. She the daughter of [her grandfather] Waltheof Northumbria 1st Earl of Northampton 1st Earl Huntingdon and [her grandmother] Judith Flanders Countess Huntingdon. He the son of King Malcolm III of Scotland and Margaret Wessex Queen Consort Scotland.
Around 1114 Robert de Clare (age 50) and Maud Senlis were married. She the daughter of Simon Senlis 1st Earl of Northampton, Earl of Huntingdon and Maud Queen Consort Scotland (age 40). They were half third cousin twice removed.
Around 1124 [her son] Walter de Clare was born to [her husband] Robert de Clare (age 60) and Maud Senlis. He married (1) his fourth cousin Maud Lucy and had issue (2) Rohese Boulogne.
Henrici Quinti, Angliæ Regis, Gesta, is a first-hand account of the Agincourt Campaign, and subsequent events to his death in 1422. The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.

In 1131 [her mother] Maud Queen Consort Scotland (age 57) died. Her son [her half-brother] Henry (age 17) succeeded 3rd Earl Huntingdon, 3rd Earl of Northampton. [her future sister-in-law] Ada Warenne Countess Huntingdon and Northumbria (age 11) by marriage Countess Huntingdon.
Around 1132 [her future daughter-in-law] Maud de Clare was born to [her husband] Robert de Clare (age 68) and Maud Senlis. She married in or before 1171 William Meschines Brito de Albini and had issue.
In 1136 [her husband] Robert de Clare (age 72) died.
In or before 1138 [her brother] Simon Senlis 4th Earl Huntingdon 4th Earl of Northampton (age 39) and [her sister-in-law] Isabel Beaumont Countess Huntingdon and Northampton were married. She by marriage Countess Huntingdon, Countess of Northampton. She the daughter of Robert Beaumont 2nd Earl of Leicester (age 33) and Amice Gael Countess Leicester. He the son of [her father] Simon Senlis 1st Earl of Northampton, Earl of Huntingdon and [her mother] Maud Queen Consort Scotland. They were half fifth cousin once removed.
Before 1139 [her half-brother] Henry Dunkeld 3rd Earl Huntingdon 1st Earl of Northumbria (age 24) and [her sister-in-law] Ada Warenne Countess Huntingdon and Northumbria (age 18) were married. She the daughter of William Warenne 2nd Earl of Surrey and Elizabeth Capet Countess Leicester, Meulan and Surrey. He the son of King David I of Scotland (age 54) and [her mother] Maud Queen Consort Scotland. They were half sixth cousins.
In 1139 [her half-brother] Henry Dunkeld 3rd Earl Huntingdon 1st Earl of Northumbria (age 25) was created 1st Earl of Northumbria. [her sister-in-law] Ada Warenne Countess Huntingdon and Northumbria (age 19) by marriage Countess of Northumbria.
The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

In 1140 Maud Senlis died.
Around 1140 [her son] Robert Quincy was born to Saer Quincy (age 50) and Maud Senlis. He married his sixth cousin Basilia de Clare, daughter of Richard "Strongbow" Clare 2nd Earl Pembroke, and had issue.
Around 1155 [her former husband] William Brito de Albini died at Belvoir Castle [Map]. He was buried at Belvoir Priory [Map]. His son [her son] William Meschines Brito de Albini (age 25) inherited Belvoir Castle [Map].
[her son] Ralph de Albini was born to William Brito de Albini and Maud Senlis.
The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy. Robert1, son of Richard, was succeeded by his eldest son [Walter], born of one of the daughters of Waltheof, Earl of Huntingdon.

Note 1. Robert de Clare, 1064-1136. He was the son of Richard de Clare, died 1090, and Rohese Giffard. Robert married Maud, died 1140, daughter of [her father] Simon of Senlis, died 1111, Earl of Northampton and Huntingdon, and [her mother] Maud, daughter of [her grandfather] Waltheof of Northumbria, Earl of Huntingdon. Following Simon's death Maud married David of Dunkeld who subsequently became King of Scotland in 1124.
