Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

Paternal Family Tree: Daubigny
Before 1109 [his father] William "Pincerna aka Butler" D'Aubigny [aged 44] and [his step-mother] Maud Bigod [aged 23] were married. The difference in their ages was 21 years.
Around 1109 William D'Aubigny 1st Earl Lincoln 1st Earl of Arundel was born to [his father] William "Pincerna aka Butler" D'Aubigny [aged 45].
On 24th January 1121, three months after the disaster that was the 25th November 1120-Sinking of The White Ship in which Henry's only legitimate son was drowned, with King Henry [aged 53] needing an heir quickly, he and [his future wife] Adeliza of Louvain [aged 18] were married at Windsor Castle [Map]. She by marriage Queen Consort England. Despite fourteen years of marriage they didn't have any children. Following Henry's death she married William D'Aubigny 1st Earl Lincoln 1st Earl of Arundel [aged 12] with whom she had seven children. The difference in their ages was 35 years. She the daughter of [his future father-in-law] Godfrey Reginar I Count Louvain [aged 61] and Ida Chiny Countess Louvain. He the son of King William "Conqueror" I of England and Matilda Flanders Queen Consort England. They were half fourth cousin once removed.
Chronicon ex Chronicis by Florence and John of Worcester. On the fourth of the calends of February [29th January 1121] the [his future wife] maiden [aged 18] already mentioned as selected for queen was married to the king [aged 53] by William, bishop of Winchester, at the command of Ralph, archbishop of Canterbury; and on the following day, the third of the calends of February (30th January), she was consecrated and crowned as queen by the archbishop in person.

In 1138 [his son] William D'Aubigny 2nd Earl Lincoln 2nd Earl of Arundel was born to William D'Aubigny 1st Earl Lincoln 1st Earl of Arundel [aged 29] and [his wife] Adeliza of Louvain Queen Consort England [aged 35].
In 1138 William D'Aubigny 1st Earl Lincoln 1st Earl of Arundel [aged 29] and Adeliza of Louvain Queen Consort England [aged 35] were married. She the daughter of Godfrey Reginar I Count Louvain [aged 78] and Ida Chiny Countess Louvain.
After 1138 Castle Rising Castle [Map] was commissioned by William D'Aubigny 1st Earl Lincoln 1st Earl of Arundel [aged 29].
In 1139 [his father] William "Pincerna aka Butler" D'Aubigny [aged 75] died at Buckenham Wayland, Norfolk. He was buried at Wymondham Abbey, Norfolk [Map].
In 1139 Waleran "Pagan" Luxemburg Duke Lower Lorraine [aged 54] died. His son Henry [aged 28] succeeded II Duke Limburg. His third cousin once removed [his brother-in-law] Godfrey [aged 32] succeeded VII Duke Lower Lorraine.
On 25th January 1139 [his father-in-law] Godfrey Reginar I Count Louvain [aged 79] died. His son [his brother-in-law] Godfrey [aged 32] succeeded II Count Louvain.
In or before 1142 [his brother-in-law] Godfrey Reginar VII Duke Lower Lorraine [aged 34] and Lutgardis Sulzbach Duchess Lower Lorraine were married. She by marriage Duchess Lower Lorraine. He the son of [his father-in-law] Godfrey Reginar I Count Louvain and Ida Chiny Countess Louvain.
On 13th June 1142 [his brother-in-law] Godfrey Reginar VII Duke Lower Lorraine [aged 35] died. His son Godfrey succeeded III Count Louvain, VIII Duke Lower Lorraine.
William of Worcester's Chronicle of England
William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

In 1143 William D'Aubigny 1st Earl Lincoln 1st Earl of Arundel [aged 34] was created 1st Earl Lincoln, 1st Earl Arundel. [his wife] Adeliza of Louvain Queen Consort England [aged 40] by marriage Countess Lincoln, Countess Arundel.
On 23rd April 1151 [his wife] Adeliza of Louvain Queen Consort England [aged 48] died. She was buried at Reading Abbey, Berkshire [Map].
On 12th October 1176 William D'Aubigny 1st Earl Lincoln 1st Earl of Arundel [aged 67] died. His son William [aged 38] succeeded 2nd Earl Lincoln, 2nd Earl Arundel and inherited Castle Rising Castle [Map].
[his daughter] Olivia D'Aubigny was born to William D'Aubigny 1st Earl Lincoln 1st Earl of Arundel and Adeliza of Louvain Queen Consort England.
[his son] Reynor D'Aubigny was born to William D'Aubigny 1st Earl Lincoln 1st Earl of Arundel and Adeliza of Louvain Queen Consort England.
[his son] Henry D'Aubigny was born to William D'Aubigny 1st Earl Lincoln 1st Earl of Arundel and Adeliza of Louvain Queen Consort England.
