Port Eliot, Cornwall. The stately home, in an estate of 2,400 ha, of the Eliot Family. Both house and gardens are Grade I listed. Parts of the house date back to the 12th century. It was substantially altered and remodelled in the 17th and 18th centuries.

On 30th September 1761 John Eliot 1st Earl St Germans was born to Edward Craggs Eliot 1st Baron Eliot [aged 34] and Catherine Elliston Baroness Eliott [aged 26] at Port Eliot, Cornwall. He married 1. 9th September 1790 Caroline Yorke Countess St Germans 2. 19th August 1819 Harriet CarewCountess St Germans.

On 1st April 1767 William Eliot 2nd Earl St Germans was born to Edward Craggs Eliot 1st Baron Eliot [aged 39] and Catherine Elliston Baroness Eliott [aged 32] at Port Eliot, Cornwall. He married 1. 30th January 1797 Georgiana Augusta Leveson-Gower, daughter of Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford and Susanna Stewart Marchioness Stafford, and had issue 2. 13th February 1809 Letitia à Court, daughter of William Pierce Ashe à Court 1st Baronet and Laetitia Wyndham Lady à Court 3. 7th March 1812 Charlotte Robinson 4. 30th August 1814 Susan Mordaunt Countess St Germans, daughter of John Mordaunt 7th Baronet and Elizabeth Prowse Lady Mordaunt.

On 20th September 1797 Edward James Eliot [aged 39] died at Port Eliot, Cornwall.

On 14th December 1829 William Gordon Cornwallis Eliot 4th Earl St Germans was born to Edward Granville Eliot 3rd Earl St Germans [aged 31] and Jemima Cornwallis Countess St Germans [aged 25] at Port Eliot, Cornwall.

On 26th November 1864 Edward John Cornwallis Eliot [aged 37] died unmarried at Port Eliot, Cornwall.

On 24th September 1911 Henry Cornwallis Eliot 5th Earl St Germans [aged 76] died at Port Eliot, Cornwall. He was buried at St Germans Priory [Map]. His son John [aged 21] succeeded 6th Earl St Germans, 7th Baron Eliot of St Germans in Cornwall.

Port Eliot's Welcome. Homecoming Of Earl [aged 28] And Countess [aged 21] Of St. Germans.

The Earl of St. Germans, M.C., Capt. Royal Scots Greys, brought his bride home to Port Eliot last evening. The village from the railway to Port Eliot was decorated with flowers and flags. At the station, immediately over the carriage which awaited them, was the word "Welcome." Over the porchway of Port Eliot was "Welcome Home." The Earl and Countess (formerly Lady Blanche Somerset, elder daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort) travelled from London by an express which specially stopped for them at St. Germans. At the station the Volunteers, under Lt. G.C. Tucker, formed a guard of honour. The carriage was decorated with flowers and drawn by estate employees, with Mr. W.J. Prior, the coachman, in full dress, whip and all, on the box. Mr. Prior, an old and respected family servant, fulfilled the same ornamental duty when the late Earl brought his Countess to St. Germans, 34 years ago. In front of the carriage were the tenants and the school children of St. Germans and Tideford carrying flags and flowers. Among those present to receive the Earl and Countess were Lt.-Com. Montague Eliot and Mrs. Eliot, Mrs. C.R. Gott, and Col. and Mrs. Gill. The chairman of the Reception Committee, Mr. W.F. Creber, the oldest tenant on the estate, was unable to be present. Mr. R. Oliver took his place, accompanied by Mr. W. Paige (vice-chairman) and Mr. W.G. Broad, hon. sec. Other members of the committee were Rev. C.R. Gott (vicar), Eng.-Rear-Adml. Haddy, Mrs. Maybard, Mrs. J.E. Goard, Mrs. J. Southern, Messrs. J.E. Matthews, C.G. Tucker, E. Body, J.A. Bersey, G.H. Carpenter, R. Palmby, W.J. Prior, J. Scantlebury, A. Botterell, and T. Mayes.
